Children of Men

I saw this movie today on a whim with my friends Phil and Lon. While we were not particularly thrilled with how the movie sounded from the description, we bucked up and went to it anyhow. Turns out that if you could make a good movie out of 1984 and add a slightly less communistic feel to it, you'd get a pretty ****ing cool movie.

Children of Men takes place in 2027, where for the past 18 years the world has experienced infertility and this for some reason plunges society into total anarchy. Personally, I would find this awesome as you could have all the sex you wanted without protection...but that's besides the point. The story focuses on Theo(dore), an average working stiff who desires nothing more out of life than simply waking up, going to work, smoking, and drinking some scotch (or gin) every now and than. Somehow, through various events that were sprung repeatdly at him like landmines over bear traps, and Theo winds up on a mission to escort a pregnant teen to a safe place to have her child.

Sorry about the crappy synopis, rather not spoil anything. Overall, it was a really good movie, I liked it a lot and it really felt like it had a meaning to it. I was also drawn into a lot of the scenes by the interesting camera techniques they used, but if you see the movie you'll understand. The only thing I thought was lacking was the ending, which no movie ever seems to get right...
