Why does Nintendo only appeal to really the younger crowd, with games like Monkey Ball and Dragon Ball Z?
Nintendo has some games that are not so "childish" but not enough of these types of games. Do you think Nintendo ever will make the jump to more mature gaming?
I'm a stereotypical teenage guy that loves tits and explosions and the Monkey Ball series is one of my favorites, and I still love DBZ. Don't be dumb.
They have mature games, just not a large number of them. Resident Evil, Red Steel, Zelda, Metroid, Fire Emblem, etc.
And there are a lot of older people who enjoy Nintendo. Just the other day I was surprised to find the elder lady in the bank telling me about her Twilight Princess progress (I was wearing a Zelda shirt and it got the discussion going). I'm 23 and Nintendo's my favorite.
There are still a lot of kids games. There are so many games based on lame cartoons, it's fairly devastating. Still, there are many fun kids games. Monkey Ball, Pokemon, Mario, etc.
I see the Wii is starting to get more mature games. We have Sadness coming out, which looks fantastic. In fact, the games that we have coming out on the Wii appear to be more mature than those on other consoles. Blood and gore isn't really mature. It's aimed at young teens/college students. Trauma Center, Nintendogs, Cooking Mama, and such are aimed for all audiences. Parents or elders are going to enjoy games like Trauma Center and Cooking Mama, as well as the younger generation. I couldn't see many parents enjoying Halo or Call of Duty or actual mature rated games.
But there's a huge difference between games aimed at mature audiences and games rated mature and I'm not really sure which one we are discussing.

But still, I suppose there is a significant lack of mature rated games on Nintendo consoles. I can only think of about 7 during the Game Cube's lifespan and I don't think the Wii even has one yet! The Nintendo 64 seemed to have a good share of them.
Yeah, Nintendo could definitely use some mature rated games, but still, it doesn't bother me much.
Eh, Call of Duty 3, Zelda, and ExiteTruck could beat the hell out of any "M" rated game.
But Call of Duty 3 is for all consoles and best on 360 so it is automatically ninja'd ! Also, it isn't mature enough because it's about history! Kiddies might learns something from it, maybes.
I included it because it's better than "M" games and is not an "M" game itself. And uh, as for it being on the others.... uh lets overlook that.

There are tons of games rated E or T that are far better than games rated M. The rating of the game certainly doesn't make the games. Only immature players think mature rated games are the best, right? Games aren't a means in which I use to fulfill my gore needs anyway.
Now, if Nintendo had a Turok game that was rated E, then there's definitely something wrong. btw, I miss Turok.
And where are all the A games, anyway? I don't believe I've ever played an Adult game before.
Nintendo is more of a family company than Sony or Microsoft. Therefore the appeal to the family, being everyone. Hence the many E rated games that are fun for adults and children.

A sex game using the Wiimote and Nunchuk would be hilarious. I'd get it. Unlock new moves, level up your character, reach a new...girl(s). You could even break the beds if you play it too roughly! They could make it educational and appropriate to sell in stores, maybes.

Make a game similar to Wario Ware on the DS, but sex based. Pinch nipples, rub penis to explosion, and much much more.

They have many serious games, which should be easy to notice since they are fairly popular. Many of them have already been named, but still, there are tons of games based on cartoons. I doubt we'll be seeing that change any time soon because it is true that Nintendo is a family system and many parents rely on it to supply them with decent children games. I haven't notice this hinder the supply of mature games, though. All the popular games on the Wii so far are mature games besides maybe Monkey Ball which is still fun for all ages. Dart Throwing is good for the kiddies and for the older ones!
Reminds me of some 13 year old Sony fanboy on YouTube whos video rants about "PS3 is gonna rule" recieving alot of negative feedback. The best bit was when he said "Wii doesnt have any sophisticated games like Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories". The idea of someone considering a GTA installement to be 'sophisticated' makes me glad I dont follow the "OMG NINTENDO IS KIDDIE LOL ZELDA MORE LIKE CELDA" crap.
... Not at all. I'm saying that I'm sick of seeing these stupid games like Elebits and Happy Feet. I am a Zelda fan and I own all of them, so you obviously don't know what you are talking about.

Seriously take the rod out of your ass and stop whining about this. Nintendo doesn't focus on **** for children; the console has games for everyone - Red Steel and Elebits, Call of Duty 3 and Pokémon. Hell, even the 360 has Viva Pinata alongside SHOOT YOUR OVERSIZED PLASMA GUN 5: THE RETURN OF THE TIME-TRAVELLING ALIENS AGAIN.
Besides, nobody's forcing you to play these games you're so vehemently against, are they?

Just ask yourself this question. How many of the greatest, most critically acclaimed movies or television series of all time are made for a strictly adult-only audience?
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Citizen Kane, Dragonball Z, The Shawshank Redemption, Casablanca, The Great Escape, Toy Story, Titanic, The Matrix are all rated 15 and under in the UK and are all way up there by most people's standards.
The fact is Nintendo don't make games for kids any more than George Lucas created Indiana Jones and Star Wars for kids.
Zelda and Mario appeal to the whole family (content-wise, at least), Pokémon appeals to a younger audience although it's aging fanbase remains loyal and Metroid appeals to the more mature teenager and young adult.
I say more mature, but really the most mature gamer should be able to enjoy all of these games for what they are, and sees through pointless gore and borish sexual references that cover up otherwise shallow gameplay and a total lack of soul in other games.
It's pretty fun. And the use of the wiimote is pretty much perfect. To the point where you don't even realize you're using the wiimote. You know? However, it's not quite as addicting as something like Katamari. Still, good game. 8.2
I can see how the Average Joe might associate the Nintendo Wii with the word "kiddy." I was browsing Wii games at Best Buy about a month after launch, and the lineup looked more like a Saturday morning marathon with many animated movie and cartoon-based games.

What people don't understand is that yes, there are many of those half-assed games, but that's the case with every system; there's always a lot of bad, low-budget games. That doesn't stop me from playing Zelda or Metal Slug or anything "mature" like that.
