anybody hunt deer like i do?
Nope. Sure don't. I don't believe in hunting animals for "the hell of it."
I generally require a good reason to do something. (ie, profit or survival)
I personally think it's stupid. I also don't think it should be titled a "Sport".

I used to go out hunting back when I lived in Montana. I couldn't see myself doing it much anymore. I don't know how I did it before, really. Definitely not my thing.
I want to. Thing is..My mother and father don't trust me with a gun. XD
Anyway, my dad used to, and my cousin does. I really want to. I will hunt when I'm older I guess, I want my dog to help me. It seems fun. ^^
Yeah, I used to go out with my dog and I will admit, we did have some fun times. Killing animals isn't very cool or respectable though.
My whole family does a lot of hunting. I've never cared for it all too much, but I do like being in the woods a lot. I've also only gone hunting only with guns, and I really don't have too much respect for that, but I have yet to go bow hunting, which is something I see as far more of a challenge and experience. Still, I'd rather just buy deer meat from somewhere else and enjoy being in the woods and observing the animals rather than shooting them myself.
I like fishing a whole lot more.
Only way I'd go hunting is if I were in Rambo's position and forced to defend myself against an oppressive foe (or oppressive foes) in order to survive. Even then I'd only use melee weapons and bow and arrows. Or if I had some really awesome gun, but that's the only exception.
I would only hunt something that has a chance of fighting back, like a bear or something. Theres really no point in killing herbivores, since most would just run away. What the hell is the point of killing something that wont kill you if you dont plan on eating the **** thing?
That being said, I'd love pretty much any excuse to spend large amounts of time in the woods playing with guns.
I feel the same way alot of you do. On the one hand, the whole hunting experience sounds like a good time, but on the other, I hate the idea of killing animals for amusement. That sounds sort of hypocritical and I guess it is, I just love spending time in the wilderness and shooting bows and/or guns.
When I go out into the wild, I usually find plenty of things to shoot. With my camera, of course.
Exactly what was fun about it. I didn't feel like more of a man because I was killing things. I didn't feel powerful. I liked to go play outside with my dog and friends. I used to like fishing too. Just going to the lake and spending a few hours with friends was enjoyable.
And that's why you're here posting at vgc right?
I used to post for "survival," or to keep my sanity in check (lack of real life friends at age 13. Yes, I was very much a loser.). Now it's just inherent.
pfft. Who needs friends to survive?
Everyone. :(
Unless you're Dexter and want to be a loser. :D JK BUDDY
I actually never felt that I needed them. But maybe I just never had the opportunity to feel that because they were always around. They are great. idk what it would be like without them. Is it just a need to share your life with people? Is it simply having company to rid of being lonely?
Most can survive without friends, but life is probably not nearly as enjoyable when you can't confide in anyone, or share all the exquisite experiences of life with someone who takes pleasure in your company.
Much like human beings, I am also a social mammal. We all have an inherent need and desire for companionship. It is simply in our nature not to want to be completely alone all the time (though, I do prefer to have plenty of time all to myself, probably more so than most people). I'm sure it's a survival trait. How would humanity have gotten this far if no one was attracted to anyone else's company?

I spent 3 years (from 11-14) homeschooled traveling foreign countries. Trust me... it's necessary. I probably wouldn't be as ****ed up in the head now if I had friends at that age. But the thing is, I've always been antisocial to the point where I would begin pointless arguments with my friends just to make them go away. Yeah, I'm pretty screwed up. :)
I 'hunt' for vegetables.
I've never hunted, unless you count fishing, and I only did that to spend time with the family. I'm not really interested in killing harmless animals.
yeah I hunt man, dont listen to half the D-Bags here, if you havent tased deer venison you havent lived. (it tastes even better when you hunted down the animal on your own)
Morally opposed to it. Killing things for "sport" just isn't my thing.
but if you eat it afterwards does it count as killing for sport? I think not.
Oh please. You could easily go buy some from the store, you don't need to go out and kill something.
So you need to kill peaceful woodland creatures to be secure in your masculinity?
Wow.
Hunting = life skill?
*HEAD ALL EXPLODY*
I'm actually with spec here. I don't really like the idea of hunting as something to do personally (and deer tastes like ***), but you lot are being a bunch of pansies.
I don't like to hunt, but that doesn't make me some hippy environmentalist. Mainly, I don't see why I'd spend so much effort to try to get food. You've got to make your shot count (obviously your not hunting with an automatic), then you've got to haul the animal away, dismember and prepare it, and then cook it. Fuck that.
I'm sure that whole process gives some people a deep and powerful sense of satisfaction.
It's a shocking thing to realise, but recent research indicates that different people might, actually, be different.
I'll stick with berries and such. Especially considering I hate guns and am stuck with a human vessel most of the time, which is much better suited for foraging and reaching up to pick fruit from trees rather than hunting.
I've only been hunting a few times, and basically spent all day wandering through the woods chewing a piece of gristle from some great homemade jerky(made from the previous year's kill). My dad used to be really good with both a gun and a bow and would hunt every year for a full year's supply of all kinds of meat products. He's the kind of hunter I can respect. I hate the hunters who drive around with their pick-ups until they see a deer, then shoot it out their window, and drive home with beer cans stuck in it's antlers. Anyways, after he works his magic on the carcass my mom makes the cuts and freezes almost all of it for us to eat over the next year.
One time we went hunting I got this lump in my throat about killing this deer. It was way too far away for me to shoot at the time(in an open field), so I was stuck there just staring at it. Did I really want to stop it from moving? I figured I could go a year without homemade venison stew(best dish ever) if it would mean the deer would keep on moving. It never came close enough for me to shoot.
I can only really imagine myself shooting a deer if I'm with other, more experienced hunters, and I get to keep all the meat. I never get the urge to go out and shoot me some white-tail. Not that I'd rather watch them all day, either. Deer are boring as hell.
It's not that hunting deer is just shooting them with a gun. If you're really cool, you'll be at least 10 miles from your vehicle, so you have to pack it all the way back, which usually takes two trips. Definitely at least two if you just shot an elk.
I've always wanted to get in a fight to the death with something like a big cougar, though, maybe armed with only a small knife or a sharp stick. That would be exciting. I would definitely feel like a more accomplished human being. If cougars tried to take over the world, I'd have all the self-confidence I'd need to face down a few mean cats.
Shhhhhhhh, be vewy vewy quiet; I'm hunting wabbits, ehehehehehehe.
Nah, I'd never do that.
My brother Carl is an avid hunter, he wants to get me and my brother to go hunting, but I see it as a waste of precious time.
Yeah, I hunt deer. Because there are so many places to do so in San Diego.
Only way I'd do hunting is minus a gun. Maybe a bow and some arrows and a knife. If I'm gonna kill an animal just for the hell of it, I want my life to be in peril to get any sort of rush at all.
Bowhunting is awesome, but incredibly hard. Some people sit in a little tower they erect in a tree and wait, but whenever me and my uncle went we went on foot, which means you have to stalk the deer, and get considerable closer than you would with a highpower rifle, you have to rember to stay downwind and all that stuff. The only problem with bows is alot of time the deer with get hit and manage to sprint a few hundered yards, so you have to follow its blood trail (sometimes you can tell where you hit it by the color of its blood, this will let you know how seriously wounded he is, and how far he will be able to run)
Now that's what I consider true hunting. Seriously.

See, that's what I mean. Rambo style.
If you wanna hunt a mean freaking animal go wild boar hunting... we used to go on an indian reserve out in AZ, those are some ****ed off animals, they get too close and your ****ed.
I hunt the only thing worth hunting: Man.
I'm pretty sure Rambo style would involve dual wielding M16's and having a ****load of grenades handy.
Judge's is more like "poor man style."
I meant more like Rambo: First Blood when Stalone was in the mountains armed with only a knife at first. :) Hell, I'd try and wrestle a ****ing animal to take it down if I had to.
In a survival situation, FYI, if you can, trapping is much more productive overall, if done properly and enough smaller wildlife populate the area, but trapping I find to be a particularly challenging art, it requires a ****-ton of practice to master, and can only really be used if you are staying in a certain area awaiting rescue.
