Pokemon TCG Becoming Overpowered?

Posted by Sean Fury

This is becoming a pain in the *** to me. I stopped "collecting" cards around the time the Ruby/Sapphire came out, so the newest Pokemon cards I have are from that generation (Mudkip, llo, which I lack for some reason). But in any case, I have card battles with my friend Lon every time I go to his house, and his deck just rapes me for some reason: every **** time. I keep trying to find rules that would prevent this, but no matter how many I throw at him, he always wins!

The main cards of his deck are: Tyranitar, Dark Charizard, Charizard, Lugia, and Rayquaza ex.

Now, losing isn't what I'm complaining about, I'm complaining about the fact that they're overpowering the new cards and none of the older series can keep up with them. For example, look at this ****ing Lugia:

200 damage, what is that?

And worse than THAT, this Sceptile:

You can not only remove 4 damage counters from ALL Pokemon with grass energy attached to them, but poison AND stop the opponent from retreating, AND do 100 damage in a single attack. PLUS, 150 HP isn't something to laugh at. Come the Hell on, this thing is as strong as a Charizard, has more HP, and more special effects, since when did **** like this become legal?

Honestly.

I can agree and disagree with you here- Dark Charzaird should be banned from tournament matches, as it is stupidly powerful (especially for an older generation card!), but I actually own that Sceptile, and I can tell you that in battle it isn't that tough, especially with it's huge energy requirements.

If you want to beat this guy, the easiest way is to get a tourament-winning deck at your local Wal Mart or Target for about $10. They are packed with lots of multi-energy cards and card drawing trainers- in other words, they are designed to beat just about anyone by turn 6. Yes, they are really good decks.

My strategy for winning is to simpily abuse the game mechanics- put the original Aerodactyl (which prevents evolution pokemon from being played) and a couple holographic Ninjask's (which are immune to basic pokemon) in, and with a bit of luck, you'll prevent the opponent from being able to make a single attack.

One thing is that you can't use torney decks if you want to go to a tourney because i think they have different backs, but if you want to just beat your friend go for it. Since Nintendo started makeing the pokemon cards there is not going to be any baned cards. Why you ask they are too afraid to ban cards unlike Wiserds Of The Coast. (found most of this info by reserching)

Thanks for the ideas, but I already had Fossil Aerodactyl (he's a pain to get out though). Another idea I came up with today was to add in the original Jungle Mr. Mime (can't take more than 20 damage or else it's ignored) and Goop Gas Attack (Rocket series) which stops Pokemon powers from working for basically two turns. I'm working out the bugs in it as I type this.

If you have the original Mr. Mime and Alakazam cards, try putting them together in one deck. I've talked to some true Pokemon TCG nuts, and most of them agree that it is one of the best possible strategies with the original cards (Mr. Mime never takes over 20 damage, Alakazam moves damage counters on your pokemon... you get the idea). Include sponges like the original Chansey and Kangaskan, add some healing cards like Pokemon Center, and you'll have a really tough deck made out of nothing but original cards.

Another amusing Pokemon card that deserves to be banned: http://www.serebii.net/picture.php?TCG/Gym_2/119-mines.jpg

try getting the ex delta spicies deck (the one with salmance on the cover) the salmance is a good card to use also you need the bagon and shelgon that is with the deck.
