post lyrics of songs that are meaningful, or poetic in nature

Posted by Bj Blaskowitz

I've tripped over the work of Nick Drake recently, and find some of his songs to be utterly delightful and poetic. Here's one:

Please beware of them that stare
They'll only smile to see you while
Your time away
And once you've seen what they have been
To win the earth just won't seem worth
Your night or your day
Who'll hear what I say.
Look around you find the ground
Is not so far from where you are
But not too wise
For down below they never grow
They're always tired and charms are hired
From out of their eyes
Never surprise.

Take your time and you'll be fine
And say a prayer for people there
Who live on the floor
And if you see what's meant to be
Don't name the day or try to say
It happened before.

Don't be shy you learn to fly
And see the sun when day is done
If only you see
Just what you are beneath a star
That came to stay one rainy day
In autumn for free
Yes, be what you'll be.
Please beware of them that stare
They'll only smile to see you while
Your time away
And once you've seen what they have been
To win the earth just won't seem worth
Your night or your day
Who'll hear what I say.

Open up the broken cup
Let goodly sin and sunshine in
Yes that's today.
And open wide the hymns you hide
You find reknown while people frown
At things that you say
But say what you'll say
About the farmers and the fun
And the things behind the sun
And the people round your head
Who say everything's been said
And the movement in your brain
Sends you out into the rain.

Where does a dream belong
Locked in the mind on the edge of time
Like a ship lost in a storm
How do we find the key?
Longing to see, through the artist's eye
Maybe only birds can fly

The man must be insane, who knows
A mind alive with images so strange
So close but never rode the sky

Watching the birds as they sail on the wind
Trying to figure out the reason why
Picturing wings held together with string
One day to fly

Someone said and I believe
Try if you dare, you can walk on air
A dream is all you need
A circle that takes you high
Lighter than air as the Earth goes by
Through a spiral in the sky

The man must be insane, who knows
A mind alive with images so strange
So close but never rode the sky

Watching the birds as they sail on the wind
Trying to figure out the reason why
Picturing wings held together with string

Just a charcoal sketch on canvas
Made them laugh but now they see
That the artist had a vision
That the wind could set us free
It's a bridge into tomorrow
Taking us beyond the sun
As the artist paints his picture
The story's just begun

Analyzing, criticizing
Fear of the unknown
Theorizing, visualizing
The road to take us home
If it takes forever
Someone's gonna fly
We may never get to heaven
But still we're gonna try

Watching the birds
As they sail on the wind
One day to fly

Finger food and an ice cold keg
It won't cost you an arm and a leg
Dance all night to a rotten band
Come on, people, let's give 'em a hand
Saturday night it's the place to be
Everybody cut footloose with me
At the party at the leper colony
Oh, there's a party at the leper colony
Hey!

Met a little lady so pretty and young
She was quite a talker till the cat got her tongue
She oozed up beside me, I turned on my charm
Well, pretty soon she was completely disarmed
I said, "Girl, now don't fall to pieces on me"
But she cried her eyes out - literally
At the party at the leper colony
Oh, there's a party at the leper colony
Hey! Hey!

Hey now, buddy, don't you give me no lip
Sorry I was using your head for dip
There's a guy in the hot tub, I don't know who
Wait a minute, it looks like Stu
Well, hold the phone now, what do I see?
Another pretty mama got her eye on me
At the party at the leper colony
Oh, there's a party at the leper colony
There's a party at the leper colony
(Party at the leper colony)
There's a party at the leper colony
(Party at the leper colony)
Oh, there's a party at the leper colony, yeah, party at the leper colony
Well, there's a party at the leper colony
(Party at the leper colony)
Hey!

In Flames ~ "Ordinary Story"

Egoism dictates human relation
A world where fashion outshines morality
Here success is written in blood-red colours
Designed by the thirst for power

Gather the faithful and propose a toast
To the epoch of indifferance

An all too ordinary story
With aftertaste so bitter
Forced to be someone I don't want to be
I'm losing myself, sinking deeper down
I'm caught in the world wound web

A time represented by the void
An excuse without content
Stuck in the abyss of existance
With a content void of excuse

An all to ordinary story
This is my story
With an aftertaste so bitter

Sinking deeper down
I'm caught
I'm caged
I'm gone

Into the flood again
same old trip it was back then
so i made a big mistake
try to see it once my way

Drifting body it's sole desertion
flying not yet quite the notion

Into the flood again

Radiohead's Creep.

When you were here before,
Couldn't look you in the eyes
You're just like an angel,
your skin makes me cry

You float like a feather
In a beautiful world
I wish I was special
You're so ****ing special

But I'm a creep,
I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doin' here?
I don't belong here

I don't care if it hurts,
I wanna have control
I want a perfect body
I want a perfect soul

I want you to notice
when I'm not around
You're so ****in' special
I wish I was special

But I'm a creep
I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doin' here?
I don't belong here, ohhhh, ohhhh

She's running out again
She's running out
She runs runs runs runs...
runs...

Whatever makes you happy
Whatever you want
You're so ****ing special
I wish I was special

But I'm a creep,
I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doin' here?
I don't belong here

I don't belong here...

And Tom Petty's Square One

Had to find some higher ground
Had some fear to get around
You can't say what you don't know
Later on won’t work no more
Last time though I hid my tracks
So well I could not get back
Yeah my way was hard to find
Can't sell your soul for peace of mind

Square one, my slate is clear
Rest your head and meet my dear
It took a world of trouble, it took a world of tears
It took a long time to get back here

Try so hard to stand alone
Struggle to see past my nose
Always had more dogs than bones
I could never wear those clothes
It's a dark victory
You won and you are so lost
Told her you were satisfied
But it never came across

Square one, my slate is clear
Rest your head on me my dear
It took a world of trouble, it took a world of tears
It took a long time to get back here
It took a long time to get back here
It took a long time to get back here

Also Hedley's I want you to want me.

I want you to want me
I need you to need me
I'd love you to love me
I'm beggin' you to beg me
I'll shine up my old brown shoes
Put on a brand new shirt
Get home early from work
If you say that you love me

Didn't I, didn't I, didn't I see you cryin'
Oh, didn't I, didn't I, didn't I see you cryin'
Feeling all alone without a friend you know you feel like dying
Oh, didn't I, didn't I, didn't I see you cryin'

I want you to want me
I need you to need me
I'd love you to love me
I'm beggin' you to beg me
I'll shine up my old brown shoes
Put on a brand new shirt
Get home early from work
If you say that you love me

Didn't I, didn't I, didn't I see you cryin'

Crawling Can be Beautiful, by Les Savy Fav

I was a member of a succescful society.
there was a sucesfull someone inside of me
but then it turned around
and inside out and upside down.
they trapped an wrapped and packed
me shifty out of town.

crawling can be beautiful
it sure beats standing still
crawling on your hands and knees
takes self-control and skill.

can we declare, though scared,
this room to be a sovereign state
where citizens share skins
and sins and copulate.
'cause if we can I think we should
and shouldn't waste a breath.
a baby place is faced
with settling on baby steps.
people party here with me.
cause the party people's party
puts the fear in me.
let loose here with me.
cause suits suit suits
but the noose suits thee.

crawling can be beautiful
it sure beats standing still
crawling on your hands and knees
can be a show of will.

who here finds this world distracting?
who here finds this world a bore?
who here thinks we're all play acting
and that the show's **** poor?
I for one am dazzled,
I don't care if dazzled blind,
rapt, enraptured, captured
by every little thing I find.

"Can you hear the whispering wind?
Over the screams of your dying friends?
Did you know your life was mine?

You know what I got
Ham on the bone
A little thing
That I can't leave alone
Now I feel the purpose of my life defined
Ham on the bone
Is mine

Now you're on call
To the desperate scene
At the throbbing ball
And you'll do it all
Now you've become my geni-thrall

You know what I got

Ham on! Ham on! Ham on! Ham on!

Now my hand grasps
My throbbing root and shan't unclasp
Go to the head of the class
Madly stroke my flaccid shaft."

Blind Guardian ~ "Fly"

Stop, be quiet now
Out with the light and,
Then up and down it goes
Fly!
Out with the light
There at the door,
The inspiration I've looked for,
The spirit of the youth appears

No one ever dares to speak
It's nothing else but fantasy
It's make believe,
Make believe

No one ever dares to speak
It's nothing else but fantasy
But one day it all will come to life

Step out of line
And I'll teach you how to fly
Then away we'll go
Leave your mark, leave your mark in the land of mine

The second one to the right
And then straight on until morning light

Stop, be quiet now
No irritation
No not the slightest doubt

We go at once
Quick - We'd better hurry,
There from the road I sense
The end of fun gets near
Wonderful thoughts and imaginations
These dreams will lift you up

What is it like? You ask me, my dear
Will there be fairies, or things to fear
For fairies sake I'd say you better come with me
So soon you'll see,
Now up and down it goes and round
Round and round and round,

Praise to my cleverness
They all follow me,
All praise to innocence
That's everything it needs,
Fly in,
Fly out,
They leave it all behind

No one ever dares to speak
It's nothing else but fantasy
It's make believe,
Make believe

No one ever dares to speak
It's nothing else but fantasy
But one day it all will come to life

Step out of line
And I'll teach you how to fly
Then away well go
Leave your mark, leave your mark in the land of mine

Life is a map and it is quite confusing
The lights are up now let the play begin
She flies, she flies,
Into the light she flies
No words like "just" in mind
She's finding Neverland
There on the day she dies
Don't stop it now,
She still enjoys the scene
Don't stop it now,
Don't stop it now,
Don't stop it now,
Don't stop it now, now, now

No one ever dares to speak
It's nothing else but fantasy
It's make believe,
Make believe

No one ever dares to speak
It's nothing else but fantasy
But one day it all will come to life

Step out of line, then
And I'll teach you how to fly
Then away well go
Leave your mark, leave your mark in the land of mine

okay, now pick a random song and try to figure out what the lyrics mean. you know, write an essay on it. I'll pick one and post it in a sec. Find all the artsy goodness so we can all enjoy it. C'man.

I like raptor's song, so I'll critique it.

The opening stanza is my favorite part, because not only does it tie wonderfully with the end, but it has great imagery and asks a good question. It asks "where does a dream belong?" It describes it as being locked in the mind. It also states that it's a "ship within a storm". This is a wonderful use, for the first time in the song, of the "moving" concept when it comes to dreams. The dream is the boat within the storm, and the storm is the chaotic thoughts within our minds that fly around at breakneck speed, clouding our thoughts and, as hinted in the song, encompassing and trapping our dreams, which are our only salvation (such as a ship is in a storm). The end of the first stanza asks "where is the key," referring to the locked mind, and gives the impression of a dream having a mind of its own, wanting to escape. The birds flying is the second reference to a dream having a transportative quality.

The "strange" images in the man's head I think are what I've spoken above, which is the giving of animal or human-like qualities to something inanimate, like a dream. So close but never rode the sky is a reference to how people strive for their dreams, but if they could only unlock them from captivity, they'd be able to "ride the sky". Again this ties birds and flying with following one's dreams.

The third stanza shows man's jealousy towards birds, in their ability to fly, like an outsider looking inside a society it cannot understand. We see birds and, in the sense the song is trying to get across, rather than strive to join them, we try to figure out why and how they fly, picturing wings held by strings. The strings and wings part I'm unsure of and can't even make a guess at what it means. It sounds artsy, nonetheless.

The next stanza brings out to the forefront the semi-masked intentions mentioned prior about how man can break out of his terrestrial form, watching birds in jealous interrogation, by letting his dreams fly. The song explains that if we follow our dreams, to use the old cliche-the sky is the limit. Here the "man" described bursts into the reader's mind, flying, no, augering upwards jubilantly to take his place amongst the avian skywalkers he'd envied for so long. This is the celebration of the key found and the door unlocked- the dream set free and the calming of the storm, if you will. All one must do is "dare" to try to walk the sky (realize, acknowledge, and follow his dreams, not ignore them or abandon them within the chaos of everyday woes).

The 7th stanza is brilliant, and the rhyme scheme is clever and easy to imagine. It shows how dreams start, in the sense of an artist making the most basic of art, a charcoal picture, which is a representation of his dreams. People mocked the artist. But the people now see that the artist's vision would set him free, and again we see the idea of flying by following one's dreams, which we find out is what the artist did. The bridge reference explains that the dream, even in blueprint form, will carry us unto a greater plateau of existence, if only we follow it, taking us to tomorrow and even behind the sun-a reference point many songs and poems use to insinuate "infinity". The picture is just the beginning and therefore the story's just begun.

The 8th stanza refers to what I stated before with man standing on the ground, questioning the bird's ability to fly. The 8th stanza takes this idea and explodes it in front of you, showing man's hesitance to go forth and be great because of overcalculation. It's what we do. We overanalyze, worry, theorize, question, and drum over every idea we've ever had to ensure the chance of failure and the chance of pain is minimal, oftentimes lowering the chance of success or feelings of jubilation if we are successful. We question it, worried about it, and yet we still try to find the way home? The song is showing that by following our dreams, we can fly home. If only we didn't have "a fear of the unknown". I, personally, blame "fear of change". The song closes the 8th stanza with a bit of hope, that someday someone will fly, and though it may **** them, in the sense that they may fail miserably, they will still make it home (I believe this is referring to the act of trying, and feeling like one has given his or her best effort, and that failing isn't that bad afterall).

The end stanza is the paper to wrap the whole song, tying the beginning with the end. It tells us to watch the birds, and know that we too can fly (discouraging us from asking why).

I dunno, I thought that was fun. Deep lyrics are meant to be dissected, are they not? Someone do mine! (I bet nobody does this but me)

CRAWLING CAN BE BEAUTIFUL, A FEMINIST CRITIQUE

OKAY MAYBE NOT FEMINIST

can we declare, though scared/this room to be a sovereign state/where citizens share skins/and sins and copulate?

Can we indeed. The first thing that is important to note about the song is that it's this guy singing it. The second thing to note is that Tim Harrington wants you to sweat and dance and party and he probably wants to sex you up. The third thing to note is that sweating and dancing and partying and sexing is a brilliant antidote to existential angst and depression, and that's the message I get out of Les Savy Fav's various freak-party anthems and their weird philosophical underpinnings. Like Talking Heads this is music you can appreciate both intellectually and deep within the gut (not to mention other moist and squishy parts of the anatomy).

people party, people party, party here with me.../cos the party people's party puts the fear in me/let loose, let loose, let loose here with me/cos suits suit suits/but the noose suits thee.

Crawling Can Be Beautiful is a life-affirming affirmation of life (you heard me) in the face of hardship, setback, and the general pointless cruelty of the world. An affirmation through PARTY and hipshaking. Albert Camus once wrote in the Myth of Sisyphus that "the struggle itself towards the heights is enough to fill a man's heart" and here we have a big fat bearded post-rock echo of the same sentiment. Crawling is still motion, it is perserverance, it is commitment... it can be hard, bloody, desperate, scraping, downright character building. And it's better than the alternative of standing still. Harrington's lyrics are often deceptively direct and simple but there is a perceptive intellect behind them--you don't need complex metaphors when your lyrics can be pure and simple like a hammer to the skull. Party and dance and keep moving forward cos hey, what else is there?

Who here finds this world distracting?!/who here finds this world a bore?!/Who here thinks we're all play acting/and that the show's p*ss poor?

I for one am dazzled/I don't care if dazzled blind/rapt, enraptured, captured/
by every little thing I find

Indeed.

And here's two brilliant songs of lyrics, song sthat unambiguously say something:

Mountain Goats - No Children

I hope that our few remaining friends
Give up on trying to save us
I hope we come up with a failsafe plot
To p*ss off the dumb few that forgave us
I hope the fences we mended
Fall down beneath their own weight
And I hope we hang on past the last exit
I hope it's already too late
And I hope the junkyard a few blocks from here
Someday burns down
And I hope the rising black smoke carries me far away
And I never come back to this town
Again in my life
I hope I lie
And tell everyone you were a good wife
And I hope you die
I hope we both die

I hope I cut myself shaving tomorrow
I hope it bleeds all day long
Our friends say it's darkest before the sun rises
We're pretty sure they're all wrong
I hope it stays dark forever
I hope the worst isn't over
And I hope you blink before I do
Yeah I hope I never get sober
And I hope when you think of me years down the line
You can't find one good thing to say
And I'd hope that if I found the strength to walk out
You'd stay the hell out of my way
I am drowning
There is no sign of land
You are coming down with me
Hand in unlovable hand
And I hope you die
I hope we both die

Augie March - One Crowded Hour

Now should you expect to see something that you hadn't seen in
somebody you've known since you were sixteen?
If love is a bolt from the blue then what is a bolt but a glorified screw,
And that doesn't hold nothing together
(best lyric ever)

Far from these nonsense bars and their nowhere music
It's making me sick and I know it's making you sick,
There's nothing there--it's like eating air, it's like drinking gin with nothing else in
And that doesn't hold me together...

And for one crowded hour you were the only one in the room,
I sailed around all those bumps in the night to your beacon in the gloom,
I thought I had found my golden September in the middle of that purple June,
But one crowded hour would lead to my wreck and ruin.

Now I know you like your boys who take their medicine from the bowl with a silver spoon, who run away with the dish and scale the fish by the silvery light of the moon,
Who were taught from the womb to believe till the tomb that as far as their bleeding eyes see,
Is a pleasure pen meant for them, builded and rent for them, not for the likes of me
No not for the likes of you and me...

And for one crowded hour... [etc]

O but the green-eyed harpy of the salt land,
She takes into hers my hand,
And she says "Boy, I know you're lyin'... O but then so am I!"
And to this I said "O well."

Well put me in a cage full of lions, I'll learn to speak lion, in fact I know the language well
I picked it up while I was versing myself in the languages they speak in hell,
That night that silence gave birth to a baby, but they took it away to
her silent dismay and they raised it to be a lady...

Now she can't keep her mouth shut...

And for one crowded hour you were the only one in the room,
I played a few songs for those bumps in the night, in fact I played this very tune,
But you said "What is this six stringed instrument but an adolescent loom?"
And one crowded hour would lead to my wreck and ruin.

There are a couple variations of this song, I think.

I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Mabye I have been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There was a time
You let me know
What's real and going on below
But now you never show it to me, do you?
And remember when I moved in you?
The holy dark was moving to
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe there's a *** above
And all I ever learned from love
Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
And it's not a cry you can hear at night,
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Love Reign O'er Me by The Who

Only love
Can make it rain
The way the beach
Is kissed by the sea
Only love
Can make it rain
Like the sweat of lovers
Layin' in the fields

Love
Reign o'er me

Love
Reign o'er me
Rain on me
Rain on me

Only love
Can bring the rain
That makes you yearn
To the sky
Only love
Can bring the rain
That falls like tears
From all high

Love
Reign o'er me
Rain on me
Rain on me

Love
Reign o'er me
Rain on me
Rain on me

On the dry and dusty road
The nights we spent apart alone
I need to get back home
To cool cool rain

I can't sleep and I lay and I think
The night is hot and black as ink
Woo Oh *** I need a drink
Of cool cool rain

Love
Reign o'er me
Rain over me
Over me
Over me

Love
Reign o'er me
On me

Love...

Oh, I love The Who. I can't believe I didn't post that song.

:bounce:

I was half expecting it to be here. I'm glad someone else likes it. It's one of my all time favorite songs.

bj, if you like nick drake (and have made it through his three main albums), i suggest vashti bunyan's album "just another diamond day" from 1970. i love it, and just recently learned that the guy who did some arrangements on nick drake albums also did them for this one.

Let's give this another go. Here's my second choice.

"The Show Must Go On" by Queen

Empty spaces, what are we living for?
Abandoned places, I guess we know the score..
On and on!
Does anybody know what we are looking for?

Another hero, another mindless crime.
Behind the curtain, in the pantomime.
Hold the line!
Does anybody want to take it anymore?
The show must go on!
The show must go on!
Inside my heart is breaking,
My make-up may be flaking,
But my smile, still, stays on!

Whatever happens, I'll leave it all to chance.
Another heartache, another failed romance.
On and on!
Does anybody know what we are living for?
I guess I'm learning
I must be warmer now.
I'll soon be turning round the corner now.
Outside the dawn is breaking,
But inside in the dark I'm aching to be free!

The show must go on!
The show must go on! Yeah!
Ooh! Inside my heart is breaking!
My make-up may be flaking!
But my smile, still, stays on!
Yeah! Whoa, oh, oh!

My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies,
Fairy tales of yesterday, will grow but never die,
I can fly, my friends!

The show must go on! Yeah!
The show must go on!
I'll face it with a grin!
I'm never giving in!
On with the show!

I'll top the bill!
I'll overkill!
I have to find the will to carry on!
On with the,
On with the show!

The show must go on!

Aside from the lyrics, I give huge points to Queen for the instrumentation on this song and some of Freddie's greatest singing on any recording.

Unmatched.

Rust In Peace..Polaris
Tremble you weakings, cower in fear
I am your ruler, land, sea and air
Immense in my girth, erect I stand tall
I am nuclear murderer I am Polaris
Ready to pounce at the touch of a button
My systems locked in on military gluttons
I rule on land, air and sea
Pass judgement on humanity
Winds blow from the bowels of hell
Will we give warnings, only time will tell
Satan rears his ugly head, to spit into the wind
I spread disease like a dog
Discharge my payload a mile high
Rotten egg air of death wrestles your nostrils
Launch the Polaris, the end doesn't scare us
When will this cease
The warheads will all rust in peace

Bomb shelters filled to the brim
Survival such a silly whim
World leaders sell missiles cheap
Your stomach turns, your flesh creeps

High priests of holocaust, fire from the sea
Nuclear winter spreading disease
The day of final conflict
All pay the price
The third world war
Rapes peace, takes life
Back to the start, talk of the part
When the Earth was cold as ice
Total dismay as the sun passed away
And the days where black as night

Eradication of Earth's
Population loves Polaris

that's. . . not so much "deep" as just. . . "storytelling"

Posted by Hyper

"Ravenous" by Arch Enemy. So pleasing to the ears.

I am hunting for your soul
It dwells within your heart
I lacerate the pounding flesh
Your spirits shall be mine

So rise my spirit rise!
Revel in this dead mans' body
Grip his soul, sip the blood
Life is death
A holy carnage

Ravenous
I will be your God
Carnivorous Jesus
I need your flesh

Ritual slaughter
Fill up the chalice
With the essence of your life
Liquid strengths
Trapped in your veins
I crave your blood
You must die!

Posted by Bj Blaskowitz

****it. These aren't "deep" songs. Deep songs have imagery and make you think about their meaning. It's like contrasting . . . I dunno, literature and manga. Quit posting manga.

Posted by Hyper

What do you expect from Megadeth and Arch Enemy? :( Actually, I think Ravenous is fairly poetic. In a cannibalistic sort of way.

now that I think about it. . . not much metal is very deep. Maybe Iced Earth.

A Silver Mt. Zion - Built Then Burnt (Hurrah! Hurrah!)

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Dear Enemies and Friends,

Why are we all so alone here? All we need is a little more hope, a little more joy.
All we need is a little more light, a little less weight, a little more freedom. If we were an army, and if we believed that we were an army, and we believed that everyone was scared like little lost children in their grown up clothes and poses;
so we ended up alone here floating through long wasted days, or great tribulations..
While everything felt wrong.
Good words, strong words, words that could've moved mountains. Words that no one ever said.
We were all waiting to hear those words and no one ever said them. And the tactics never hatched.
And the plans were never mapped.
And we all learned not to believe.
And strange lonesome monsters loafed through the hills wondering why..
And it is best to never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever wonder why. So tangle -- oh tangle us up in bright red ribbons!
Let's have a parade. It's been so long since we had a parade, so let's have a parade! Let's invite all our friends.
And all our friends' friends! Let's promenade down the boulevards with terrific pride and light in our eyes: twelve feet tall and staggering..
Sick with joy with the angels there and light in our eyes.
Brothers and Sisters, hope still waits in the wings like a bitter spinster; impatient, lonely and shivering, waiting to build her glorious fires. it's because of our plans man; our beautiful ridiculous plans. Let's launch them like careening jetplanes.
Let's crash all our planes in the river. Let's build strange and radiant machines at this Jericho waiting to fall.

does that count?

Stop listening to "mainstream" metal then. Problem solved.

Posted by Arwon

I think you accidentally inserted an extra word there. The sentence works better without the word "mainstream" in it.

Posted by rivercitytecmo

arwon: i used to use one of your quotes about metal as an away message. something about metal being a stultified genre and how everyone who likes metal is a loser and that goes triple for internet fans. or something. it was awesome.

Posted by Arwon

I'm thinking I should've also told them to move out of their parents' house.

Dream Theater - Under A Glass Moon

Tell me
Remind me
Chase the water racing from
the sky
Always beside me
Taste the memories running
from my eyes
Nervous flashlights scan my
dreams
Liquid shadows silence their
screams
I smile at the moon
Chasing water from the sky
I argue with the clouds
Stealing beauty from my eyes

Outside the soundness of your
mind
Bathing your soul in silver tears
Beneath a blackened summer sky
Praying for time to disappear

Beneath a summer sky
Under glass moonlight
Night awaits the lamb's arrival
Liquid shadows crawl
Silver teardrops fall
The bride subsides to her
survival

By your hand
I've awakened
Bear this honor in my name

"Can You Feel Like Tonight?" by Elton John

There's a calm surrender
To the rush of day
When the heat of the rolling world
Can be turned away
An enchanted moment
And it sees me through
It's enough for this restless warrior
Just to be with you

(Chorus)
And can you feel the love tonight?
It is where we are
It's enough for this wide-eyed wanderer
That we got this far
And can you feel the love tonight
How it's laid to rest?
It's enough to make kings and vagabonds
Believe the very best

There's a time for everyone
If they only learn
That the twisting kaleidoscope
Moves us all in turn
There's a rhyme and reason
To the wild outdoors
When the heart of this star-crossed voyager
Beats in time with yours

(Chorus)
And can you feel the love tonight?
It is where we are
It's enough for this wide-eyed wanderer
That we got this far
And can you feel the love tonight
How it's laid to rest
It's enough to make kings and vagabonds
Believe the very best

It's enough to make kings and vagabonds
Believe the very best

METAL LYRICS FTW LOL

Maudlin of the Well - Sleep is a Curse

Life means more since I stopped thinking
Life means more because you keep me going
I dreamed that we had another moment, still
We could be the champions of art
I killed myself because I was stupid
Great things come, but only as a blessing
It took so long because nobody told me
The Son of *** is nothing more than this

I think I have it, I'm an angel
Humbled as such to learn from you
the truth of Life is never spoken
And sleep hasn't ever done me any good yet

Sleep is a curse
Remember that moment the music led
our dying minds to Heaven?
The promises of Life are tragic
The one for me will never have those things
That night, the forest was seething
So many things, but her face was all I saw
You're so good, your face is all I see.

I think I have it, I'm an angel
Humbled as such to learn from you
The truth of Life is never spoken
And sleep hasn't ever done me any good yet

Quoting Vampiro: METAL LYRICS FTW LOL

Was that part about me and the song I put?

EDIT: I think somebody should make a thread called 'post lyrics of songs that are offensive in nature

Quoted post: Was that part about me and the song I put?

idk, is elton john metal?

Posted by Omni

No, but not only does it not say anything about me having to post metal lyrics, there's also nowhere where someone was asking me or anyone else to do it in this thread. Plus, I posted Elton John because he's about the exact opposite of what everyone else was doing.

Oh ***...

You don't get it, so never mind. You probably just think I'm clueless, but I couldn't care less about that...

Seems more appropriate.

doing the opposite of others just because it's differentis what got bush elected president dumbass. bye the way
I like disturbed evn though mainstream so i'll post one i really like that also happens to be an old Genesis song

Disturbed - Land Of Confusion
I must have dreamed a thousand dreams
Been haunted by a million screams
But I can hear the marching feet
They're moving into the street

Now, did you read the news today?
They say the danger has gone away
But I can see the fire's still alight
They're burning into the night

There's too many men, too many people
Making too many problems
And there's not much love to go around
Can't you see this is the land of confusion?

This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth living in

Oh, superman, where are you now?
When everything's gone wrong somehow?
The men of steel, I hate these men of power
I'm losing control by the hour

This is the time, this is the place
So we look for the future
But there's not much love to go around
Tell me why this is the land of confusion

This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth living in

I remember long ago
When the sun was shining
And all the stars were bright all through the night
In the wake up this madness, as I held you tight
So long ago

I won't be coming home tonight
My generation will put it right
We're not just making promises
That we know we'll never keep

There's too many men, too many people
Making too many problems
And there's not much love to go round
Can't you see this is the land of confusion?

Now, this is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth fighting for

This is the world we live in
And these are the names we're given
Stand up and let's start showing
Just where our lives are going to

Who Decides- Nevermore

And so we meet again, the dirt on our feet but then
Who knows who really decides?
In this spacial oddity, this viral commodity
The astronaut listens to voices that call
Won't you follow me down?
Breathe, as you suffer with existence

Rags and ruin of all that was human
Leaching the force of collective design
Heroes and rapists they all have nice faces
But who decides, who defines, who draws all the lines?

In this wasted miracle, the outcome so terminal
Why do we waste time on hope?
In perfect execution, liquid and lucid
Born in the astromaut's eyes
Of hate, loathing, wonder, and fear
Breathe as you suffer in denial

The lover and the blind man they sing their song
The pleasured and the pained pray their sins are gone
They can't reach heaven, the truth's brutal lesson
Forgive yourself, for no one else will die for your crimes
But who decides, who decides?
