Infraction System

Posted by Iris

I remember Jesse mentioning this before and I was hoping he could install it or at least say when and if he will. It'll be very convenient. It's a banning system where mods can give infraction points to members for breaking rules. 10 infraction points and they're banned.

If he does install it, we need to set some restrictions. For one, I'd like to know if it can be used by all mods and not just super mods. It'd be very helpful if regular mods could add infraction points as well. We ought to keep it invisible which mod gives the user an infraction point and we should probably set up how often we can give them in one day and how often a mod can give them to a specific member. We must also set up guidelines as to what type of posts deserve infraction points. Stuff like porn, advertising, and puppeting would still be an instant permanent ban, so it would be mostly spamming and flaming which members should receive infraction points on.

Oh, and I'd like to know if the banned members will still show up on the banned users list and how long the ban would last if they've accumulated 10 infraction points.

All of that stuff can be determined when we have it, really. It'll be here when Jesse upgrades to vBulletin 3.6.

I dunno, I think the whole banning thing works pretty well without points.

It's for constant offenders who don't necessarily deserve a ban for a specific post. If you reply to every thread some one's posted in, harassing them and contributing nothing to the topic, then they should get an infraction point for each time they do it. If they do it once, it's not really worthy of a ban. If they do it constantly, then it should be.

So you're proposing this system in order to feed more convenience to the staff of VGC and decrease they work they have to do and make them lazier because you can't be responsible enough to remember everytime a member does something wrong? JEEZE IRIS

But actually, I'm now in favor of this system because of that reason concerning the general level of intelligence with the newer members that post in the Megaman board. also, someone give me another board to mod :(

Actually, it's because it's unnecessary to warn them in the thread, everytime they do it. However, I'm pretty sure giving an infraction point allows you to leave a comment, and the post is more likely to be seen by a mod. It's just like reputation. 10 dereps and you're banned.

You see how many threads are derailed when a member is warned for breaking a rule? This way it's private and can be done by any mod.

not needed

Neither's a mod for Gamecube or Gameboy, but that didn't stop anyone!

hohoho.

Well, I don't really mind either way. If you all want it.

Posted by Alastor

I don't really care either way. If it fails, we can always revert back to the setup we have now.

Not really. It's a default, built in feature of vB3.6.

Sorry to disagree. I won't in the future.

Oh. Well, nevermind then. I still don't really care.

I don't think we need this system as things are going just fine right now!

v3Arcade has been really slow at upgrading!! Look at

http://www.v3arcade.com/forums/

Yes, it would be invisible, then you guys wouldn't be biased at giving your buddies infraction points!!! On boards that do have it, even the most active and populer members get them!! :D

Mods can give them to normal members. Super Mods can give them to Mods, and dare I say it...only da King of da Wackos can give them to Super Mods!! Now who can give da wacko infractions!!! :D:D:D

You can set how long a point lasts, I think between 30 and 90 days...or forever!!!!!

Dare I say it...it would be good for trouble makers like

I like the Infraction System, but I don't really care either way. It'd be nice though, because blog mods could be banned (atleast I'm guessing they could through this system).

This isn't going to work too well for n00bs. You can't just rack up points when they break rules because 1) Most newbies break rules just on accident since they're not familiar with the rules, and 2) They're definitely not going to understand this system right away. You could solve #2 by explaining it as a part of registration (make it apparent how important it is so they don't skip past it), but it'd still be ideal to give them a PM heads-up on their first attempts.

If we want to try and make that more convenient as well, maybe build in a warning system or something? It's not fair to give them points before they know any better.

Posted by Iris

Well, you can set how long the point lasts. 1 point allows you to leave a warning, but it doesn't ban. If they get 10 points in like, a 10 day period then they'll be banned. If we warn them to make their posts coherent or to keep from spamming then the points would go away soon enough. We can even link them to the Board Rules thread.

Newbies, no matter how stupid they may act (unless they're making an effort to spam, you SHOULD be able to tell), shouldn't be issued these points until they've been here a couple of months, as most of us have had our idiot days, and we were given a chance.

You can also just give warnings that don't give them an infraction point.
