Some superb photos, there. You have definitely got skill. I am especially fond of the moonrise capture, though I plan to spend more time browsing the rest later. Mind if I link to your gallery on my blog?

I'm into the same sort of photography as you. I've got thousands of photographs of nature-related subjects, many of which can be viewed at my gallery. My next camera will likely be a digital SLR, and I plan on acquiring wide angle and telephoto lens sets, polarizers, external flashes, etc. so I possess the tools to develop my skill as a professional.

Thats fantastic I appreciate the feedback! Its great there is somone else here who is into photography! You have some really good stuff too. I especially like the sunset with the wave in front of it thats just beautiful. You must be from Hawaii? Just wait till you get a digital SLR the whole world of Photography changes. I love it so much its just so hard to keep up with the technology. And the accessories and lens are so expensive. But ya I would really appreciate a link in your blog and I will put your link under my links section if your ok with that! Let me know.

This image didn't have a location, so I was wondering if it was from Idaho or not.

If it was I'd be all over it and go camping there right now. 4+ hour drive HERE I COME

I love taking pictures, but have yet to take any great ones. I would love to upgrade from my 5.0 mega pixel camera to a much more powerful camera. I hope to do this by the end of high school.

Posted by Cloudstud

Yes it is from Idaho! Its near the Coeur D Alene area. The north fork of the Coeur D Alene river actually. Its a up a little creek called flat creek, you hit a hiking trail and its like a half mile to these beautiful falls called Centenial Falls. Beautiful place.

Feel free. I'm waiting to have enough saved up for a nice piece of equipment which I can spend my time learning and mastering, while researching the market for quality nature photos. I'm considering submitting a few of my recent shots to various publications.

I think it was trying to be witty.

I'm very much into photography, but I only shoot film (B&W and E6 Colour). I use the best of 25 years ago: a Pentax K1000 and a Pentax ME Super, with 50mm, 80-200mm, and 1000mm lenses for each. You should really get that telephoto lens - it will allow you to do so much more and give you a more creative freedom.

I'm not a frequent photographer as I don't own a camera of my own, but when I have access to one, I'm very much involved. Also, I love developing **** myself.

Ya you should you have some really good shots there. I can definitely see some of those in magazines.

And as for the bandwagon thing........ I really dont see how it would be a bandwagon more of a hobby. And even somtimes a profession.

Quoting Kamek: How is photography a bandwagon?

So many girls in my school take ****ty pictures with their disposable digital camera, thinking they're going professional, then editing it in Mircosoft Photo Editor. It's such a bandwagon because they take pictures of the same thing, they take the classes and then figure out it's too hard, so they quit the class.

Posted by mis0

Real film photography is hard, and professional digital is too. You actually need a good technical aptitude to perform well with your equipment; obviously, it's not for everyone.

Posted by junior senior

Yeah, that's what I'm trying to say. This one girl thinks she's so good, she has no camera and she uses a camera phone. Give me a break.

Posted by Cloudstud

Ya i see what your sayin but its not really a bandwagon. Like you said for example when they realized how hard it really was they quit. Some people like to take pictures but some people are into photography 2 different things. And who cares if people do like to take pictures let them think they might be a pro photographer. No need to shoot them down, people just doing what they like to do.

My father actually has an assortment of lenses; I just need to locate an adaptor for my camera for a reasonable price. Buying it directly from Canon would cost $59.99 for a measly piece of plastic. I know I can find it somewhere else for much cheaper.

Even though it's readily apparent that you don't appreciate the hobby, along with anything else requiring intellect and/or creativity and involving good taste, it is still pretty contemptible to burst into a photography thread proclaiming it's some kind of bandwagon because you know a few girls who take pictures on their cell phones and think the resultant images are better than they are. Either learn how to contribute something useful once in awhile, or go paint your body with steak sauce and jump into a cage full of starving pit bulls.

Hmm ... I wish I was better at it - one thing that always bothered me is that on my camping trips the background always gets blurred [see Yosemite thread].

But I have some that turned out decent.

I love photography. I much prefer photos about people being unaware of the camera. Natrual beauty and the staged is fine do but no way near as interesting than reality.

"Informal portraiture" is something I love to shoot because it is so interesting and the results are often outstanding in conveying the message you want them to. Even if the person is aware of the camera, as long as you don't let them "pose" the results are usually very good.

I like it, Im no professional but Ive taken good photos before. Ive even done some very nice shots with my camera phone (though there getting so good now adays).

IMO the best thing you need to do is find a good angle. Try some thing out of the box because the same old same old doesnt get the human eye much anymore.

I was originally just going to post about how I loved the capitalisation of the thread title, but wow. I love the contrast caused by the juxtaposition of the mountain in the background.

This brings up an interesting point, actually - the composition would be vastly improved if the mountain's contrast (and possibly size, although the jury's out) was altered, although not too much, and the crane removed - but would that compromise artistic integrity (and so forth)?

Discuss.

Natural beauty is reality. A very stunning element of reality. I have never found people interesting enough to want to photograph them, but maybe someday I will get more into that side of it.

Edit: Ok nevermind, I just raped the H-Scroll. Can someone resize a pic for me?

I took this at 2 AM one night by Hudson River Park, in Tribecca. I wish I knew how to take good night pictures.

My dad got me into photography, usually I take pictures on his and I just got my camera a little while ago so I dont have any pictures to show :(

Opinions will vary widely based on individual definitions of what comprises a quality photo in terms of composition and the methods used to achieve the final product. I personally feel that removing the crane would just make the entire photo a monstrosity of superficiality. A tribute to false story telling, if nothing else. Besides, there are actually two cranes, so if you decided to remove one, you'd then have to decide whether to remove the other. The fact that there are two (aside from one standing out so much more than the other) rather than one makes the presence of such an object appear a little more balanced in the photo, when the primary emphasis is on the cityscape. The contast of the entire picture should be raised slightly, and maybe the snow on the mountain brightened considerably (though, I'm not even sure of that- I'm not used to seeing such a dirty-looking sky), but nothing removed. My opinion is based entirely on my own artistic values.

Thats because you hate people and want them to die all the time. :( I don't prefer natural beauty as much simply because I've seen so much of it. As far as I can remember I have significently more encounters with photographs of nature than of unaware people.

My camera should be arriving tomorrow. I've been hunting for a classic, polaroid instant camera for a while. Hardly any photographers shops stock them because they are either focusing on digital or their isn't enough demand for them. Also the ones that do have instant camers aren't what I'm looking for. They are either limited or the photograph sizes are too small.

I'd say remove the crane so human presence is virtually non existant. (Obviously the buildings are a representation of human life but it would be more metaphorically...or something) I'd say leave the mountain as it is but try to get more buildings in. Try to make the buildings cover to sky so it's like the only window into nature is a small gap, which will soon be covered up. You could move the cranes there to show this but I'd leave it mout. It's implied enough really. That way you get a cool little pseduo political message. The mountain far off in the distance can represent nature dying or being shunned, while the heavier more dominating buildings represent the disease that is the human race. Realisitcally it would be impossilbe to do :(

But that's just me :cookie:

I suck at photography but I took these at a convention about a year ago. The real scene was prettier than what my ****ty camera captured.

This is a stupid question, but I do not know how to adjust on the focus of an image, Like a close object really blurred or any close object blurred and the background more emphasized.

Are you into... photography, eh? Photographs, eh, he asked him knowingly.

thats the first thing that came into my head. I'm generally not that into photography as a hobby. I think of it more as a way to document things that you want to remember. When I went on a spur of the moment, three day road trip to new orleans, we documented the entire thing. I've also had numerous pictures of scenes at parties on other peoples cell phones, but getting them to send them to you is a *****.

I just recently bought a digital camera, and aside from a ton of great pictures and videos from the Rancid concert, I have yet to fully test it out. I'm heading to the Museum of Natural History and the Bronx Zoo next weekend, so hopefully I'll get a few good shots there. Plus I'm going to try and get to my favorite place here on Long Island, Sands Point sometime this week to get a few pictures of the castles and of LI Sound.

Other than that though, I've taken a few good shots during my various trips in the last few years:
