Help fixing VB

Posted by iownpants

Hey all,

New here, thought you guys might be able to help me out with all your VB wisdom. I recently bought one off eBay. I plugged it in, got out Red Alarm, and started playing. After a couple minutes I realized something was wrong. The left screen seems to be totally out of whack. I read through the faq on virtual-boy.org and did the test for alignment. The horizontal line didn't even appear, then after a second there were like ten of them!

Help! Is there any way to fix this? Nintendo's website says that they no longer do repairs for any of the old systems. It just showed me how to do the test, not how to fix anything. If I open her up will I be able to re-align the mirror myself or is that impossible without a machine and a proffesional?

Any advice would be helpful, thanks.

Unfortunately you're experiencing a problem that it starting to plague a lot of Virtual Boys. :(
After years of (ab)use, it appears that the glue holding the LCD cables to the displays slowly lifts off, causing these problems.

There may be hope however. DogP supplies a service for fixing this by opening the VB, reheating the glue and pressing the cables back on. You can find more about it here. :)

EDIT: Unfortunately

Oh wow, it's sad to hear that a lot of good systems have been affected by this problem. I guess every race has to face some sort of disease along the way. Anyway, thanks for pointing me over there, I'll be sure to make good use of the information on the site. I really got to get this thing fixed before I give it to my bro for his bday.
