I have not played a decent RPG in a while, and I was
wondering if anyone had any good suggestions for a
decent RPG on the PS2 or the PSP.

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth
Tales of Eternia
Breath of Fire III
Monster Hunter Freedom

PS2 games (a few essential PS1 titles, too):
Final Fantasy VIII
Valkyrie Profile Silmeria (it's not out in English yet, but apparently it rocks)
Xenogears (you HAVE to play this one)
Chrono Cross
Xenosaga (maybe)

They pretty much lifted it directly from Xenogears, and I'm glad of that.

The graphics were also pretty ****ing great for a PS1 game.

I need more Playstation RPGs, but I can't afford that and a music obsession. :(

Edit: I just saw Poco's username and got reminded of the Arc the Lad collection for the Ps1. It's pretty fun stuff. Not the greatest, but certainly enjoyable.

Yep. I liked the fact you didn't have to spend time conserving mp and you could send people to hell with spells.

Huh, what's Star Ocean II like? I played the first one and loved it a lot; is it decent?

it's decent yeah, it hasn't adged well though. The translation is ***-awful too. I recall this coming out of Calude's mouth in 3 word blocks:

"What's going on?'
"Let's check out what's going on!"
"Comeon crew let's check out what's going on!"

Yeah, Radiata Stories is great. By far the funniest straight-forward RPG I've ever played (Disgaea wins for unconventional, or strategy, rpgs).

Great story, beautiful settings, pointless battle system. The game was made in that era where RPGs makers were trying to think of how to blend real-time action with RPGs, so the game mostly consists of you running around aimlessly and pressing a button to slash the evil, blurry monster while in a battle. Still, it's an rpg so I don't really care about the battle system, so I say it's good.
