I only said it because I realized after reading over my post that that's what I would've thought of/considered doing if it had been someone else.

Different Aeris. :)

And I hate those Crawlers, they're all different levels so I don't know how I can tell which ones I'll be able to kill.

How much does it cost to play FFXI? Are there any shard servers?

Posted by Lord of Spam

DO NOT play that game. It seriously sucks ***. And its like 15-20 a month american. Not sure what that worls out to in your filthy heathen bux.

I just want an MMO to play that doesn't involve pounding the space bar until your fists disintegrate :(

Or maybe it was that I turned five.

It's $12.99 for one character, an extra $1.00 for each additional character.

With one character, though, you can change between every class.

I like it far more than WoW. I find the story better, the world is FAR more beautiful, it takes longer (beat WoW way to ******* fast), and it plays more like the Final Fantasy series than it does EQ or WoW.

If you're just now getting it, though, expect to update for an hour or so.

I love this game. :)

Posted by Slade

Are you playing it on a PC or PS2? I've been thinking about getting it, but my only option would be the PS2... and I'm not sure how great that would be.

Posted by Kit

Final Fantasy XI is good, but not very easy if you're just starting. I just started last month and I'm only level 9 warrior, level 1 everything else so far. :(

What's scary about that is that I've only done one quest. :(

It's fun when you're in a party, though. But I haven't found many people my level.

Oh, and I'm playing on PC.

Klarth: You could play SilkRoad. Then you can click your mouse until your fists disintegrate.

Posted by The Judge

Posted by Lord of Spam

XI is a grind from hell. I assume that klarth is talking about maplestory (lol fag). Well, the grinds are just as bad in xi, if not worse. You need something like a few million exp to go from one level to another at higher levels, and you can expect something like a few hundred EXp per kill from monsters that are on par with your level.

WoW allows you to level quickly, and focus on challenging end game content. I seriously doubt that whoever it was said they beat wow was doing full scale MC raids. Not to mention that there is actual PVP, unlike FFXI which has none.

Edit: when i say quickly, i mean it. i have a friend powerleveling two other friends. they started like 5 days ago. they are now in the mid 40s. the level cap is 60.

Posted by Kit

Exp required increases 250 each time, but the exp you get from monsters also decreases as you level too, so it isn't easy to level right away.

Oh, and something your level gives 50 exp, unless you're in a party.

Posted by Lord of Spam

Are you talking about WoW? Because I KNOW you arent talking about 11.

Posted by Sapphire Rose

Yes, I was including the MC raids and the AQ20 and all that. I had a tier 2 (Judgement) Paladin, and a tier 3 (Earthshatter) Shaman. I've done the PvP content to no end (DAoC had FAAARRRRR better PvP for the record). It was just too **** short.

FFXI and SWG are what I currently tie my time up with. I like the size of the world, the community, and the length of the games more. XI has a superior story over WoW, and SWG has more options.

Posted by Kit

Quoting Lord of Spam: Because I KNOW you arent talking about 11.

You know wrong. :)

Posted by Lord of Spam

Huh, neither of us was right.

http://ffxi.ogaming.com/data/2828~ExperienceChart.php

TOTAL exp to next level is in the millions. I have seen him kill things for only a few hundred, and the mods get way harder as you move up.

Also, fullscale mc raids in only a month? Jesus, how much did you play? Loser.

Posted by Kit

Oh, I was looking at the TNL instead of the total exp. (500, then 750 (250 more.) But I'm not a high enough level to notice a change. :)

And the fastest time for somebody to go 1-60 on WoW is just over a week.

Posted by Lord of Spam

I cant handle the grinds on 11. You have to kill the same thing SO MANY TIMES that it just gets boring. With WoW, you get to the fun high level stuff faster.

I don't know crap about WoW myself, other than that my brother didn't like it as much as FFXI. Something I believe he said was that WoW concentrates too much on bumping elbows with other players and competing to succeed, whereas FFXI is all about working together and cooperating. Not to say there isn't PVP in FFXI, either, it's just a seperate part of the game.

FFXI does indeed have pretty exasperating exp demands, I won't lie about that. It's easy when you start, but leveling up means you've got to get more and more exp from monsters that are still giving you the same amount.

See, it compares your level to the level of the monster and gives it a rating ranging from "easy prey" to "incredibly tough." Each rating will give you a certain amount of experience, the middlemost being "even match" at 100 exp points. You can solo "easy prey"-"even match" (though soon even matches will become too hard to fight by yourself), but the real exp is in forming a party with five other members. The experience is split evenly among all members, so fighting something that's incredibly tough with six people gives about 150 exp to each player on a pretty good run.

The problem is when you get to those high levels... at level sixty, when you've still got fifteen levels to your cap, it's hard working your way to 18,800 exp points when you're still getting around 150 in every fight. Very time consuming.

In my opinion, though, it's still worth twelve bucks a month... true, you're forced to spend a lot of time leveling before you can do everything, but it's not like that's the whole game. There are several plotlines now that are as compelling as any traditional RPG, made more intricate by the depth of the game. No shortage on quests, either, which will have you busy with simple tasks and deliveries with material and monetary rewards. The bosses are some of the most kick-as[color=indigo]s
I've seen, and the ring of friends you form can be just as tight as us at DA are.

Plus, do you get a moogle to tend your house in WoW? Yeah, I didn't think so.

So, yeah, despite the work you've got to do just to level up, I still have fun with it. I recommend you try it for at least a month or two to see what it's like, or bother me to give you a more in-depth description of everything you can do in the game.

If I ever wind up playing, I'm SO a Dragoon.

Posted by Lord of Spam

I guess the difference is that I dont care about plot or story in an MMO. I just want to be able to get my nerd on and use my brain. I want to think up strats and think about different builds etc. I dont care that ZOMG TOWN NEEDS TO BE SAVED. I'm more concerned with trying to get as much dps as i can.

edit: dragoons suck nuts. Seriously, your pet is a little purple wuss.

Posted by Linko_16

Dragoon is a job you have to unlock. I don't know myself how far into the game you need to be to get it. Your starting jobs are, if I recall, are Warrior (tank), Monk, Theif, Red Mage, White Mage, and Black Mage.

And my bro just told me you need to be level thirty before unlocking extra jobs, though you usually need people to help you.

If you ever decide to start, let me know. I can purchase a ticket that gets you onto the same server as me.

EDIT - and my brother's told me before that Dragoons get a really bad rap for no good reason. But, like I said, I don't really know.

Posted by Klarth

Red Mage I am, then. Maybe I'll start in... A week. As soon as I have FF8 out of the way.

Some, maybe. But apparently the Ranger quest is really easy, and you can do it in a few minutes without using any effort.

Oh, and the what are the unlockable classes? I know of Ranger, Beastmaster, Summoner, Ninja and Dragoon, anything else?

Posted by Lord of Spam

Apparently the pc version is a bit easier to play. I'm assuming you're using a keyboard with teh controller, though. The controller alone is auto fail.

Probably. I have it for PC, but if you get one of those keyboard controllers, it must be nearly the same. I have friends who play both on computer and PS2 (a married couple who do so to play at the same time), and I can ask them what they think if you want.

[quote=Dark Kirby]Oh, and the what are the unlockable classes? I know of Ranger, Beastmaster, Summoner, Ninja and Dragoon, anything else?

Bard - Uses songs and instruments to buff party members (temporarily enhance stats) and debuff monsters (opposite, obviously).
Beastmaster - Charms monsters into fighting for the player.
Dark Knight - A warriorish tank with minimal black magic, only job able to fight with scythe.
Dragoon - Fights with a wyvernn companion, only job able to fight with lance.
Ninja - Lots of fun tricks, very effective as tank, using shadows to take damage instead of the player.
Paladin - A warriorish tank with minimal white magic.
Ranger - Effective with ranged attacks, includes ability to find monsters on the map.
Samurai - Very strong melee, most skilled in using Weapon Skills (limit attacks).
Summoner - Able to summon avatars to fight.

New unlockable jobs from the recent Treasures of Au'turgahn (or however you spell the @#$%ing thing) include:

Blue Mage - Fights with skills learned from monsters.
Corsair - Able to use guns. (Pirate, if you don't know French)
Puppetmaster - Uses a funky-looking, custom-made automaton in battle.

[quote=The Judge]Fukken bol. You really think anyone cares about each other here? Wow, you really are gay.

We travel across the country to meet one another. Most internet pals can't say that. Maybe you're gayer than you think. ;)
