Dreamcast Boot Disc Question

Posted by ccrocker58

I just got a Dreamcast off EBay and need to get a boot disc (I don't care how much more efficient a Mod Chip is, I'm not messing around with hardware). I found one, but it says it will only work on DC's made before Nov. 2000...is there any way to tell if the DC I got was made before then?

You need to check the revision number. It is located on the bottom of the DreamCast. Look at the bottom right corner of the big label (next to where it reads NTSC or PAL) for a circle with a number in it.
The first picture on this page will show you what it looks like. If it's a 0 or a 1 then all is good.

As for the boot disc, it's only necessary for playing back-up copies of first generation releases (1999-early 2000). You don't absolutely NEED to have it.
