Prostitution

Posted by Arwon

Are there any valid arguments for keeping prostitution illegal?

ZOMG MORALS

Not really.

it does bother me how morals are being squeezed from politics. If you can't logically explain it, it can't be proven = bull****.

In Britain prostituion is legal. Advertising it is illegal.

I suppose it's your body, and you can do with it what you will. If that means selling sex, I don't see why it should be a problem. I mean, don't we have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness stateside? Arguably this certainly could fall under that last one there.

There is no real reason that protitution should be illegal.

I would never sleep with a protitute though. I would be to afraid of contractiong some disease.

use a condom.

I thought it was illegal because the government wasn't profiting off of it taxwise.

Anyways, it creates jobs and earns income for women and men who never really made much of their lives.

[quote]Mr.Nintendo agrees: No one sleeps with prostitutes anymore.
Not when 75% [or more] percent of average girls pretty much are, but they do it for free. :cookie:

Most of the problems that are associated with it (disease, exploitation of women, etc) are solvable or at least limited by the legalization and regulation. Hell, tax it to pay for itself and BAM, no real impact. Chances are that like anything that is legalised, there will be a huge rush as people try it out, but after the initial "Oh, hey, this is new and cool now that its legal" phase wears off, it will settle back down to a steady, even rate.

It's not a very safe occupation. I wouldn't care if it were legalized, as long as some regulations are set.

I forsee strict government regulation on this and welcome it. Whore of the government? I think so!

Plus legalizing prostitution could probably have other good effects too such as reducing the amount of rape/date rape. If some guy can't get laid to save his life, wouldn't it be a lot better for everyone if he could just go and buy a hooker legally rather than resort to something like rape?

Benefits of legalizing: Basically end violence towards prostitutes, make it taxable, control spread of STD's

Problems with legalizing: lol morals

"oll hi helpless woman, get in my car. i'm horny and desperate and i'm going to pay you and definitely not rape you"
"omg k"

When it comes down to that, Amsterdam's red light district has prostitute labour unions. Not that I care what happens to some hooker who gets dragged into a van or anything.

Yeah, same here, though the exact regulatory framework differs from state to state. Stuff like erotic massage and escorts get advertised. It might also be illegal in one state, I'm not sure.

I think the tax side comes into things like liquor licenses and council rates for brothels, and income tax on the sex workers themselves, rather than for specific whore taxes.

I find it weird when certain things are legal in some states than others.

In Amster**** where prostition is legal it is seen as a more respectable activity and managed as a business so their are more safeyt regulations and what not. I think theres even a union o.O

Legalizing it would make it safer.
