Sounds like honour killing. Which happens somewhat often in countries around the world. Hell, even here in Canada and the US, albeit very rarely and mostly among Arab/Muslim/Sikh people.

On a more serious note, that's horrible. But, it's hard to help, since the government and beliefs aren't like America and other countries.
