SO I WAS IN HAWAII [HUEG PICTURES]

Posted by Stalolin

and visited Kauai, Oahu, Hawaii, and Maui.

Kauai:

Took a helicopter ride around the island, much of the island has wonderful mountains and goregeous waterfalls.

Here's a few from the helicopter ride.

This next image was taken on the slope of Mount Waialeale and is considered the wettest spot on Earth. Tour guide said it rains 360 days a year up there.

Here's a picture of the mountainous areas, as opposed to a constant stream of waterfalls.

MOAR WATERFALLS

Oahu:

Our trip to Oahu was Pearl Harbor based, we saw the memorial for the USS Arizona and saw the USS Missouri, and here's a picture of the latter.

lol which one am i lol

Hilo, Hawaii:

Took a bus tour around a few of the attractions, saw a big hole where there was probably lava under a few feet of ground. Though, here's a shot of when we were driving away from the cruise ship.

LOLIN LOVE ICE CREAM (we stopped at the Mauna Loa factory/plantation. Got ice cream.)

Passed by some lava rock from some previous eruptions years ago.

Kona, Hawaii:

WELCOME TO KONA, HOME OF RAPTOR.

Didn't really have that much time before the cruise departed from Kona, same with Hilo. So we hopped on a boat to go snorkeling. Saw some playful dolphins on the way there. Many attempts were made by myself and my mother to capture good images of the dolphins jumping out of the air. I believe we ended up with splashes (I'll have to check/upload my camera pictures later).

anywho, dolphins!

That's probably all for now, I'll put up more pictures when I can upload the stuff from my camera (These were shots from my mother's).

wait wait wait. ONE LAST PICTURE. THE ROAMING CHICKENS OF KAUAI. These things were everywhere on Kauai. The roads, the beaches, the parking lot of a KFC even.
... rich bastard.

Not really. My mother pooled the money that my grandparents left us with and bought a cruise because she was overstressed with life, (or at least she claims).

she brought my brother and I along because it was probably our last family va cation.

Wow, those are some really nice shots. Looks amazing.

i envy you :(

Dude, awesome pics. I want to hit up the islands sometime so badly and just go wandering through some of the parks late at night after everyone is gone. So much cool stuff there.

Surely the bus stopped at Hilo Hattie, yes?

Ah, Waimea Canyon. I remember when I was too young to know any better, I exclaimed, "look, it's the Grand Canyon!" when I first saw it. If anything, though, it's the Grand Canyon extremely miniaturized.

And I see you managed to capture the church I attend as well. Good work.

It's just really hard for me to imagine enjoying Hawaii the way I feel it should be enjoyed, being taken everywhere by a cruise ship and buses. Nex time, rent a jeep, and we'll go to Waipio Valley. Thank you for supporting the local economy, though.
Surely the bus stopped at Hilo Hattie, yes?

The bus in Hilo did of course. Though we didn't actually go into it. The Wal-Mart right next to it provided more and of course, brought in more customers. :(

And personally, I felt the rush of the cruise ship a bit annoying. I didn't mind our time in Kauai, we managed two days there. Every other island we had to be back on board by 5:30, which only left enough time for tourist activities instead of exploration.

Yes, there is a substantial difference between standing next to a waterfall with the rest of the day to do whatever you want and passing over one quickly in a helicopter.

Posted by Slade

Hah, my parents told me about the chickens everywhere. Said they're really noisy at night.

Nice pics. Personally, I haet guided tours, but I can imagine it was still fun as hell. I want to go on a tropical vacation now. :(

But guess what ITS NOT GONNA HAPPEN. My parents went on their honeymoon, so I wasn't about to go. And they didn't really like it that much. Step mom lived in Hawaii for years and didn't like it that much. What is it with the age 50+?

I DIDNT LOOK BECAUSE IT LOADED TOO SLOW

Quoting Slade: I hate guided tours,

Especially when they take you to places like Pearl Harbor. If I wanted to see a ****ing naval base I'd go to San Diego. At least he got to see Hilo, albeit the much less culturally and topographically interesting parts.

Those are some pretty sick pictures man...looks like you had fun. BTW, where in idaho are you guys from?

Kauai is the oldest island in the Hawaiian archipelago, which means that our sand has been worn down by thousands of additional years of pounding surf. Kauai has GREAT beaches! We also have the only navigable river in the state of Hawaii on this island, though I have to admit that I know nothing about the connection between rivers and beach sand. :) Do yourself a favor and get a book called Kauai Revealed by Andrew Doughty and Harriett Friedman. It will not only give you tips on the beaches that best suit your interests, it will show you the best restaurants, activities, hotels, etc.

whoa

where the **** did they go

**** you imageshack

i don't think i have these images anymore :(

*NEVER* depend of free image hosts for your 'keep for memory' images. That's like trusting WackoHater to keep your images safe. Always keep back-ups of them on your own computer, and/or external hard-drive!!!!

Search your computer for kauaichopperrideii5.gif and maybe a few of the other images file names.

Posted by Slade

wouldn't it just be kauaichopperride.gif ?

I only vaguely remember the pictures, and I wanna see em again :( go forth, lolin, and reclaim what is rightfully yours

yeah, they were on an old computer which is why i don't think i have them anymore

BUT

i did find some from when i went there for a wedding (rich uncle paid most of the trip, was his daughter's wedding). the wedding itself was pretty nice, but i won't throw up any pictures of it, i'll just do some scenic stuff

Labled a lot of the files as Kauai, but many of them were taken from Maui (SLIPPED MY MIND, MY BAD RAPTOR).

First one is a shot from a beach in Maui (don't remember where).
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/OMGZERGRUSH/HWAIAI/kauai.gif

Annnnnd another beach in Maui
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/OMGZERGRUSH/HWAIAI/kauai2.gif

We went on a hiking trip which took us around two hours into some of the more mountainous regions of Maui, and I snapped a few pictures of the scenery while going up. Got a bunch more, but unfortunately my camera isn't made for long distance shots, so they came out pretty poor
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/OMGZERGRUSH/HWAIAI/kauai3.gif

And this is probably my favorite shot from the trip, taken on a beach in Kauai

it's panic.

You should have called me when you were on the island of Oahu. I would have shown you the better aspects of the island so as not to fill your memories of it with military and DEATH!

Posted by Stalolin

Oahu's not that great actually. I really prefer the island of Kauai. Oahu's far too commercialized.

Posted by Vampnagel P. Wingpire

Those are beautiful. Man, I want a pet seal.

Posted by Kutlass

yeah, o'ahu really isn't that great. i'd almost rather live on a tiny little island with hardly anything to do, like lana'i. o'ahu has way too many people for such a small island swamped with all the national stores and restaurants i'd find in california, except no ****ing olive garden. also, freeways just seem horribly out of place in a place like hawaii. but the island does have a few nicer spots, and a hell of a lot of homeless people living in them!

and, man, I see those monk seals everywhere these days. you think you want to pet one until it suddenly snaps up and bites your hand off. besides, they're super-protected and i think there's a $50,000 fine or something like that for touching one, not that they usually hang out where anyone would be around to catch you. i've never seen them do anything but just lay around on the sand. life's a beach then they dive. :cool2:

That's what I like about photobucket. It saves up the pictures you upload until you remove them yourself.

Shame I couldn't see the pics though :(
