VGCer In Japan!?

Posted by specopssv44

Hey guys. I been hella busy with work lately. My unit is deploying overseas. We will be spending a few months in Japan before we head out on the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (SOC). I leave tuesday afternoon. Hopefully I will be able to post here and then while overseas.

Sounds awesome man, go kick some ass.

Posted by Grave Wisdom

Hopefully i'll go to Japan one of these days myself!

Stick around VGC as much as possible. The withdrawels are...most painful! :(

I'll be in Japan soon, I'll come visit.

You could be making this whole thing up. In fact, you might not even be in the military, and this is all a cruel joke... still, if you are going, I pity you. Be careful at dinner.

FunFact: Japanese people eat anything that can be dredged out of the ocean.

Where is your ultimate station point? Are you headed for Iraq, or are you going to go say hi to Kim jong il?

Have fun you mother****er. Bastard, you get all the good food :(

Hmmm, Japan, I'll be their next summer or so. Anyways have fun and get lots of pics.

Good luck Aaron. Remember, you promised you'd kill someone in my name. :)

Make sure to buy some sweet manga and anime while you're there.

OH, one point of practical advice: stay away from japanese porn. Sure, it may sound like a good idea. But it isnt.

Trust me.

Japan huh? Never really was interested in the place but if you ever go to the Middle East and stop by Jerusalem, have a fun time!

Hey all. well....specops is currently in japan, for the next couple of months or so anyways.... Japan is cool, but way hotter than I expected. When we first arrived here it was 5 in the morning and about 90 degrees. The humidity is insane, its like walking around in a sauna. The jungles here are f-ing crazy, triple canopy, the birds are so loud you have to nearly yell to talk to someone right next to you when youre in them. The culture is pretty awesome. I find most japanese people to be very humble and very friendly as well. I am picking up bits of their language and I usually will at least greet them in their own language and attempt to talk to them in Japanese unless they seem irritated or rude about it in which case I will speak english and be as breif as bossible with them. Ive only encountered a few Japanese people that honestly acted like *******s, but theyre out there. The island is beautiful but our operations here are incredibly strenuous due to the tropic heat and terrain. More updates coming soon as well as pics.

Just a bunch of crap like mangas in original text (japanese) a jug of beer from the vending machine, etc.

Posted by specopssv44

yes they do have everything in vending machines here. I also have discovered the weird *** cartoons on EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING to be rather amusing. Even bathroom doors at restuarants have weird *** cartoon dudes on them.

What do you have to do in Japan, i.e, what is your 'job' there? How good is the place you stay?

Posted by specopssv44

The expiditionary force I am with right now is headquartered on this island. In a few months we will embark on ships and travel around to a whole bunch of countries (which ones i have no idea). So for the next few months we are training in preparation for that. We just got an *** load of new weapons so theres alot of work to be done, Zeroing them out, testing them in combat simulations etc....AND of course theres always the lovely hikes we go on...COUGH DEATH MARCH COUGH....ranging anywhere from 7 to 20 miles with a couple hundred pounds of gear.... The barracks are nice by enlisted standards. I just recently got the internet hooked up in my room (which I share with another Marine) so I am now a happy Marine. The rooms are basically like college dorms.

Went out to eat at our favorite local Japanese restaurant. In japan you can smoke anywhere, and getting totally **** faced at dinner is an everyday thing haha (if you listen closely you can hear some of the locals playing a drinking game in the booth thingy next to our group haha)

Walking around one of the largest towns in on the island, had to pee, saw a park that looked really really well kept... discovered something out of place haha

Us finishing up our land navagation course... Land nav sucks, especially in the jungle, and especially when its 103 degrees.... oh yeah **** the rainforest haha

... Many many more videos from out in town, need some time to sort through them, let me know what you think.... Also for those of you who are all hardcore about Japanese stuff you may be able to talk me into hunting down whatever it is you want and mailing it to you.

Haha, those bums were pretty sweet. I just assumed everyone in Japan was loaded and owned a Pikachu doll.

And eye-opening experience, for sure.

I lol'd at the "Good Morning Vietnam" comment.

Posted by Lord of Spam

those videos are clearly not from japan. Japan is perfect, so there arent any hobos. In fact, everone in japan is so perfect that they dont even need bathrooms, because they jsut convert food into pure happiness, which they then exhale, making just being in japan a good experiance.

Posted by Slade

I enjoyed them. Needs more hobos, or at least random Japanese people.

Posted by Ant

I ENJOYED THAT!

But how the hell did you take the camera out into that jungle mission thing? WOULDN'T THAT BE AGAINST THE RULES?

Posted by specopssv44

that jungle thing was just a land navagation course. ON a real patrol id be too busy dealing with my weapon and hand arm signals to **** around with a camera... Land Nav courses go like this. They give you a map, compass, and protractor. And then they give you 5 grid coordinates ( 23453642 for example.) You use the protractor to plot those grids on your map, then you draw lines inbetween the points, then you use your compas to shoot azmuths from point to point. Then you convert those azmuths from grid to magnetic azmuths, which then allows you to follow the magnetic azmuth your compas will give you... yeah its a ****ing pain in the ***, especially in a jungle because you cant really use any terrain features for reference points, so you have to rely entirely on your compas, pace count, and dead reakoning abilities... Its complicated, and it doesnt help when its 100 degrees outside, your wearing 40 pounds of ****ing gear, and your map is just about useless because its 15 years old..... but yeah I got some more vids ill put up soon.
Its hard to videotape Japanese people randomly because theyre really weird about random people taking their pictures, but Ill do my best to be sneaky about it haha

Posted by specopssv44

yeah no worries... The japanese police are pretty crazy, theyre like all some sort of weird super ninjas... ANd theyre all hella old... Very weird... I have a picture of me with one.
