I saw some people with avatars and sigs of this (Vampiro and Ant), and it looked like a new anime, So I asked about it. I was told the name and downloaded 2 episodes, but haven't really watched them. Only the first 3 minutes of episode 1. I would like to know, what exactly this anime is about. In the beginning it looked like just a bunch of "icchi" I think its called, and that doesn't interest me so much. Does it have an Intriguing plot? Does it spike interest? I'd watch the full episode, but due to the icchi, it might make my mom and brother think Im watching porn or something... I would just like to know if it's real good, and if it is worth watching.
Edit :Icchi is not the right word I was looking for, I forgot what it was... Basically when somebody in an anime/manga looks very provocative.
First of all, don't start from the first episode; the episodes don't follow a chronological order. Rather, start from the second episode, which is episode one chronologically, and go from there. Or, you could look up an episode guide for it that tells you the real order, but since episodes 13 and 14 have yet to come out, you may find a small hole where episodes 5 and 6 are supposed to be.
Concerning the plot, the anime is centered around Haruhi Suzumiya, a freshman who dreams of meeting aliens and timetravelers and such because she thinks it would be "interesting." In order to accomplish this, she sets up a club called "The S.O.S brigade" and "voluntarily arrests" others to join her. The narrator, Kyon, becomes the first member of the brigade, after Haruhi, even though he was trying to leave his own fantasys about aliens behind in middle school. However, he begins to wonder what Haruhi really is after he confronts his other club members and learns their true intentions.
I can't summarize... T-T
But it's pretty funny IMO.
And by the way, that "Provocative" Character? You'll be seeing a lot of her, though it's not really pornography.
It is NOT pornography period.
Don't get first impressions from the first episode, because like they say, it's not in cronological order. Apparently, the episode numbers Haruhi calls out at the end of each episode are the REAL episode numbers.
This show just blows me away with each epsiode seriously. I can't imagine what this would be like if we didin't hear Kyon's thoughts on everything around him. Not only that but that dance they do in the ending animation is kick-arse.
It's really a strange series, hard to explain with out spoiling.
The word you're looking for is 'ecchi'.
The term ecchi is applied to anime or manga that has vague sexual content (such as skimpy clothing, partial or full nudity), but does not show sexual intercourse.
Can you even buy this anime anywhere?
Teh List (Although I could have just directed you to wikipedia...)
Episode 1 - Mikuru Asahina's Adventure: 1 by episode order, 11 chronologically
Episode 2 - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya I: 2 by episode order, 1 chronologically
Episode 3 - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya II: 3 by episode order, 2 chronologically
Episode 4 - The Boredom of Haruhi Suzumiya: 4 by episode order, 7 chronologically
Episode 5 - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya III: 5 by episode order, 3 chronologically
Episode 6 - Remote Island Syndrome (Part One): 6 by episode order, 9 chronologically
Episode 7 - Mysterique Sign: 7 by episode order, 8 chronologically
Episode 8 - Remote Island Syndrome (Part Two): 8 by episode order, 10 chronologically
Episode 9 - Someday in the Rain: 9 by episode order, 14 chronologically
Episode 10 - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya IV: 10 by episode order, 4 chronologically
Episode 11 - The Day of Sagittarius: 11 by episode order, 13 chronologically
Episode 12 - Live Alive: 12 by episode order, 12 chronologically
Episode 13 - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya V: 13 by episode order, 5 chronologically
Episode 14 - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya VI: 14 by episode order, 6 chronologically
So, you should watch 5 next, if you watched 2 and 3 already, and then 11. However, since 13 (5 chronologically) and 14 (6 chronologically) aren't released yet, you may find yourself stuck until around next week.
EDIT: Does this work too?

I guess I ended up sending you to wiki anyway...
No, watch them in the order that the show goes normally. IT'S THE WAY IT'S MEANT TO BE!
Is this available in the US, yet or is the only way of actually getting it through downloads?
Is this available in the US, yet or is the only way of actually getting it through downloads?
Download only.
I looked at some pics and it looks intresting.
Does anyone know a site where I can get the episode or where do you get yours?

If you've got a torrent program then you can get all 14 episodes from here, http://a.scarywater.net/afk/
Crap I don't have the torrent program.
Then download one LOL
I downladed it now, does it take long for the episode to be downloaded?
It could take one hour or a couple of days.
I downladed it now, does it take long for the episode to be downloaded?
Considering the torrents are still pretty active you may be able to get quite a few in a day.
I downlaoded episode one but it only gives me audio with no video.
Try these: http://isohunt.com/torrents.php?ihq=haruhi+suzumiya&ext=&op=and
They all worked fine for me.
I downlaoded episode one but it only gives me audio with no video.
Try running the episode with something like Divx or JetAudio.
Google them, I myself prefer JetAudio, but Divx should work as well.
Been meaning to check this anime out for some time. I'll probably download it over the next couple days.
open your ports, nub. guaranteed that's why it's going so slow. Hell, I just downloaded the last five episodes in about an hour.
Well I watched the first episode after work and I lol'd alot so I'm gonna keep on watching them.
spoilers: first episode is nothing like the rest. Which is neither good or bad. It's just a fact.
I just downloaded the whole series. Okay, so whould I watch them in release order or chronological order?
Seriously, chronological. Watching it by the air date ****ed me off because it's like reading spoilers... without it actually making sense.
Make sure to watch Episode 00 first though.
Episode 00, what the hell? I've got 01 to 14.
Episode 00 is like... episode 13 or something
edit: 11
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Melancholy_of_Haruhi_Suzumiya_episodes
Wiki says it doesn't exist.
First one. Right thurr: "Mikuru Asahina's Adventure - Episode 00"
Airs first, called 00, but actually episode 11.
Alright, watching time.
Part of the music played in the first episode reminded me of MegaMan X music. Boomer Kuwanger's stage, to be precise.
lol watching via YouTube.
Alright, I'm about to finish watching Chronological Episode 01/00/whatever. I laughed heartily at the "LOLI FACE WITH BIG BREASTS" bit.
edit: okay, the opening to the ending credits song sounds just like something out of MMX.
I've just finished watching them in the episode order and I really like the anime.
Too bad it isn't longer. :(
I'm going to watch them all in twelve hours or so.
*realisation dawns that he's spending 16 hours a day in front of his computer*
...Coooool.
Hmm a interesting series, hopefully they will make a second season.
They probably will. There's more than enough story and manga to go on.
Hey, I need help I went to this site:
http://www.bittorrent.com/index.html
and dowloaded Bit Torrent
Then I went to this site:
http://isohunt.com/torrents.php?ihq=...ya&ext=&op=and
and tried to download one of the episodes but it said (You need software like uTorrent, BitComet or Azureus for this link to start P2P download)
Even AFTER I dowlaoded Bit Torrent....can anyone help me please!!!!
Problem one: It's not exactly P2P like Kazaa in the first place. Get the ".torrent" file and load it into your Bit Torrent client.
I finished watching and I have to say, quite the concept. I really haven't seen anything like this is a very, very long time (if not ever). I really hope they do bring more of it. (Come on, there is NO way you couldn't!)
I had to download some other things like the video player Bit Torrent and Bit Comet but it's starting to download. Thanks Arczu.
Don't use Bit Torrent.
I actually did enjoy it quite abit, very funny and quirky with nice characters, though I'm just checking, is there for sure only 14 episodes, after I completed the series it seems that there was no actual closure:
Like, we never actually find out anything about whether she is, in fact, *** or ***-like entity or anything else about the whole 3 years incident
Well, anyway, not a big deal if not, still a very good and fun series, hopefully it's get continued more and brought over to America, I'd like to see the manga.
Yeah, there's definitely only 14 so far.
Well, Boomstick there is a manga on The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, but it's all Japenese with no translation.
http://azureus.sourceforge.net/
Use Azureus - most tweakable, fastest bt client around. I actually use TorrentFlux because it can run remotely, but what the hell.
I just watched chrono 4/anachrono 10. Pretty interesting!
They tend to borrow words from other languages, much like english does. Sometimes this includes entire phrases.
guys i have a question regarding haruhi suzumiya:
why is it so ass-terrible?
oh wait, i think i know! it's because it's poorly written and stiffly animated schlock that spends half of it's 14 episodes going absolutely nowhere and then rushes to conclude in the final two! even better, it's chock full of references to literature and pop culture that just screams "hey guys, we know things." oh, and the fanservice!! even better. not only am i insulted intellectually by the dialogue, shallow characters, and dumb references, i have mikuru's tits being slung in my face every 5 minutes. thanks guys!
everyone involved in the creation of this and anyone who enjoys it needs full lobotomy as fast as possible. have standards in anime fallen this low??
I think it's a lot better than everything out there right now - Hell, I'd rather watch this than Bleach/Naruto/DBZ/any other trainwreck of an anime that runs longer than 26 eps.
I'm watching it chronologically and not in the order of broadcast. It'd be ****ing stupid to do otherwise.
yeah i love the whole "oh **** guys our climax is in the middle of the story, let's jumble things around and say we did it for a reason" thing going on there.
it's still shit!
I thought the animation and writing were some of the best. But whatevs.
i'm talking about it because it's my goddamned right to talk about things. i've seen the whole thing, i'm sorry, i can't erase it from my memory and then go watch something else. if you figure out how to do that, please let me know, i would greatly appreciate it.
as for the animation. . . what? excepting the battle scenes (which were very well done) everything is so stiff and dull. nothing really POPS out at you and keeps you interested, unless you really dig on fanservice. it feels like GONZO did this or something. if you want amazing animation, look to Studio 4C or Production IG's work. this isn't the place for it. this is medium-budget scholck TV anime, and it shows. no style, no movement, no energy to it at all. they saved all the budget for the action scenes and it shows.
the writing is fine, it's just not that great. it's not really all that sharp or interesting, you know. i'm not sitting there watching it going "oh man this is really terrible" or anything, but i'm not, you know, laughing at any of the jokes, finding any of the pseudoscientific babbling all that compelling, etc. the characters are just so devoid of personality. haruhi yells a lot and is emotional, yuki is stoic and smart, mikuru is sickeningly cute and just slings her knockers around the whole time. kyon is your stock anime protagonist, and keichii talks WAY TOO MUCH. every time he appears on screen i thought "time for another rant! how many philosophic movements will he name-drop this time?"
if anything, haruhi takes the stock characters of the high-school harem anime to their extremes. we have the loud girl, the quiet nerd, the sweet innocent girl (who happens to have breasts bigger than her head), and the main character who is stuck in between the three of them. except each one is just exaggerated to the point of ridiculousness. if satire of high-school drama anime was what they were going for, that's great, but why bog it down with all this pseudoscience and philosophical nonsense?
likewise, if you are going to make compelling sci-fi, don't stuff it with flaccid, one-dimensional characters that are uninteresting, and at worst (mikuru) incredibly annoying.
The animation is great. If you want an example of such look at my sig.
I'm not going to make a long post out of it. But I liked the show. It was different then anything else I've ever seen thus far. And I, for one, like how the director decided to put the episodes out of order. Although confusing at first. It keeps the story full of suspence the entire way through.
ok, so the intro and the action scenes are well animated.
still shows absolutely no imagination on the part of the animators. bland bland bland bland bland.
The story itself is imagination enough. Although there weren't enough giant robots.
that's another thing. there is a really good concept behind this whole thing! they just go nowhere with it! i know you guys would just yell at me and delete my post if i attempted to actually explain this point, as i'd spoil the entire thing, but i just felt like the last 2 episodes really dropped the ball.
I personally thought it brought the series to a close really well. It answers all the questions that needed to be answered, or mattered, anyways. THUS WHY THE DIRECTOR ENEDED THE SERIES THE WAY IT WAS!
And no, don't be affraid to explain yourself.
Just put it in spoiler tags.
Question.....Even though Kyon pretty much said he didn't like Haruhi Suzimuaya in a "love" way, who here thinks he secretly does like her in that way?
Well, he basically says in the last episode(6) that he actually likes how Haruhi acts and how she is adventurous and all that. So yeah, he does for sure. But I don't think he acts upon it because he doesn't want to ruin the relationship he has with her as friends. And so he doesn't feel guilty for gawking at Mikuru's tits ;)
I surrender and I am now torrenting it.
Took you long enough.
Watch it in chronological order and stop as soon as you've seen episode 6.
If you actually want to enjoy the series to it's fullest...then watch it in the order that the episodes came out.
Because the rest are "fillers" but each IMO have their own little bits of information that make the series much more indepth. And add more life to the characters within.
The director of the show made it the way it is for a reason.
I liked episodes 12 - 14 out of the series.
Huzzah.
The "filler" eps are fun and all, but... Eh. I did kinda like the two-parter one with the island and all, though.
UPDATE!
http://kurogane.animeblogger.net/2006/08/08/rejoice-my-fellow-haruhiists/
HARUHI SEASON TWO IS COMING! These happy days or yours and mine!
****ing badass. It was a given though. It couldn't just end.
Ok, so now I'm all confused. Is season 2 coming out. Yes or No?
official? no. But I would be HIGHLY surprised if there wasn't.
I would be surprised, too. The first season had way too much success for them to just cut it short. Plus, a second season would be very much appreciated. :D
Oh, I guess that clears things up. I just finished watching all 14 episodes today, and I gotta say, this has to be one of my favorite animes ever. I loved all the detail they put into each episode, and not only that, but it's hella-funny. Can't wait to get some news on Season 2.
You know what would kick ***?
A full-length Haruhi movie.
Me neither. But they may use the movie to end the series or something of the sort.
