It's depth-added 3d, but it's still pretty cool. The guy who programmed this is NickMade.com and his site has been having a lot of trouble holding up the traffic, so we're hosting a mirror for him:

here's some more mirrors you can try if we go down:

Definitely one of the cooler homebrews I've come across!
Wow, that's cool. Downloading as we speak.
EDIT - None of the sprites in my version seem to have transparent backgrounds... Mario casts a blue shadow on the stage and most blocks, as do enemies and clouds and stuff, that matches the blue background. I also have been a little mislead, trying to use some of the usual Mario elements; I noticed that kicked shells won't harm other Koopa Troopas, and I got a real surprise when I'd thought that because I was standing right beside the pipe, it was safe to jump up without fear of a Piranha Plant attacking.
Otherwise, this seems really great. Can't wait to take the time to play it all the way through.
this game was ok, but it had too many problems, even worse than super mario bros. 1 the original!
AWESOME!
This game is flawed. Really really flawed.
Piraha plants are supposed to stay in the tube when your are on top.
that is not hard to code. Therefore, flawed.
This game has issues.
Yeah it's definitely not as polished as a true Nintendo production but it's pretty unique at least :) The programmer who made it (NickMade) has gotten a ton of attention for it and hopefully he'll be inspired to take everyone's feedback and tweak it a little. It has potential to be awesome I think.
On another note, some other guy made a 2D version of Super Mario Sunshine in Flash. This one's also lacking some polish but is a pretty interesting concept - it plays 2d like the super nintendo version, has elements on the n64 version, and has the water meter/jumping gameplay of the gamecube version. It also has a bunch of castle-selectable stages, awesome time killer. Check it out:

Blogspamming is neither clever nor funny, and I'm sure we'll all forget your website ever existed :)
I saw this on Digg (where you probably nicked the news from) a few days ago and was mildly impressed. It's a gimmick and that's about it.
Don't worry buddy, he was just wasn't informed into the facts, and he didn't even bother to look them up! :(
PRETTY SPECTACULAR IF I DON'T SAY GOOD CHUM!
It got boring pretty fast.
This isn't the original Super Mario Bros...
That's what the "sorta" means.
