Hey there, folks! Welcome to www.vgchat.com.
As I've been bored and meaning to do this for some time, here are some helpful guidelines for posting. Note, these are not rules. There is a rules thread somewhere (I'm not sure where). These are moreso tips to be a respectable member:
Grammar and spelling: A couple errors here and then are fine (normal, even. We're all just human). However, constant usage of poor grammar and spelling is not only annoying, but frowned upon. For all this site's beligerance and idiocy, we're very strict about correct usage of the English language. Please attempt to take the time to spell everything correctly, avoid abreviations, and put the words in the correct order (Sound obvious? Not to some people).
Public Opinion Matters: Unless you're coming to this site with a very important message for us all and then leaving, odds are you're trying to become part of the community. Just like in real life, this can be a very easy or very difficult thing to accomplish. One thing you never want to say around here is "Well I don't care what anyone thinks anyways." This is a public board where your words and actions are broadcasted worldwide to anyone who chooses to view them. Use some discretion. If you really didn't care, you wouldn't have joined anyways.
Reputation Points: This is the system of rewards/punishments members have to use on eachother. Unless you literally please everyone (which, by the way, is impossible), you're bound to get derepped occasionally. Don't throw a fit. I used to be like that, so believe me, it's just a number. The same as your post count. Unless your rep is in the negatives (in which case there's obviously a reason why it's there), other members (or at least the ones worth knowing) won't pass judgement on you just by your post count and rep points. It's post content that matters.
People Here Are Judgmental: A fair number of people on this forum tend to be very harsh in terms of judgements, and they tend to be very quick to make them. Such people include myself, Klarth, Vampiro, and Lord of Spam, to name a few. If you don't immediately get their (our) good sides, don't go out of your way to do so unless you really, honestly care what specific members think. But if you do, then listen to the suggestions people give (aside from Klarth, who's suggestions are "get out" and "shut up.").
Stereotypes: Stereotypes are prevalent heavily throughout this site. If you are the victim of such a stereotype, it's best to just let it be. The following are labels on people that are heavily used here: Furry, Emo, Goth, and Faggot. As you probably know, most times the term faggot is used, it's not actually referring to a homosexual. As for the rest of them, by common understanding, furries love animals and pretend to be them, and partake in sexual actions while dressed as them, known as "yiffing." Goths complain about their lot in life, dress dismally, and express their pain in the form of agonized poems and saying how dead they are inside. Finally, Emo's slit their wrists, listen to bands such as Linkin Park, and live with a "woe is me" attitude. If you are any of these social classes, don't try to explain yourself, and don't try to "make us realize that's not what (insert group) is really like!" We don't care, and we'll just make fun of you for it. The person on this site to most commonly label other with a stereotype is Lord of Spam, often inaccurately.
Darkness Advanced (DA): A big part of the site in some roundabout fashion, DA is the most active blog on the site. It's members include Ant, Myself, Sniper, Vampiro, Klarth, Stalolin, Slade, Lord of Spam, Dreadnaught, Roger Smith, Saphire Rose, ExoXile, and so on. It is also reviled or generally looked down upon by the rest of the site, which begrudgingly acknowledges its static existence on the boards. This is a place that promotes bigotry, racism, sexism, hedonism, blasphemy, and all the "y's" "ism's" and "try's" there are that are negative (all in good fun, of course). Normal VGC rules do not apply there (aside from the no porn rule), and many of the mods there hassle members for fun or generally abuse their powers. If you decide to come to DA and try to fit in, do not be upset or particularly surprised if you are outcast, mocked, ridiculed, or offended. It's just how it goes there. On the other hand, those who are well liked by the members stay and have a great time. It's not a fair system. Think of it as middleschool.
Don't Vie For Power Right Off The Bat: No one cares about your previous experience supermodding your Invisionboards, and no one cares if you want to become a mod here. It takes a long time, and you have to prove yourself in some way or another. Don't just come in here and say how you want to be modded. That's a sure fire way to ensure it'll never, ever happen.
Oligarchy: As much as many people try to deny it, the power system here is an oligarchy, that being a rule by the elite and few. Live with it.
Having warned you of all this, welcome, and enjoy your stay here, new members!
EDIT: And before some smartass says anything, no this wasn't necessary, I was just bored.
That's nice, ego +1, here Judge have a sticky :)
WTF Judge, that was boring as hell to read.
Hmm, I can't really think of anything he missed...did he?
I can. Add something regarding sarcasm. Like you yourself say, you're always kidding. Let them know that half the time, insults are really just jokes, and knownig the difference will come with experience.
Good idea, though, very informative. Shame I can't rep you quite yet.
Most important advice I could give- Put youselves in the shoes of someone who will be reading your posts. Sure, creating long, angry messages about games you hate may satisfy you, but to other people who may have no idea what you're talking about, you just look stupid. If you're not sure if you should post something, like a thread in the Flame Board, imagine if someone else posted it and you liked the thing they were attacking. What would your reaction be? That's what probably will happen.
EDIT: Also, don't claim to be a Super Mod. You're not fooling anyone.
Include something about puppeting, and all that "lol this is my only account i dunno who that guy is" crap.
That sort of goes along with the fake mod thing. You can't fool the long arms of the law.
My point still stands. If you post something and you would be mad if someone else posted it about you, don't complain.
Of course, I am using "you" in the indirect form.
Puppeting: Not only is it against the rules, but it's also very annoying for other members to try to figure out who you are. What's even worse for your public impression is when a mod IP checks you and then publicly announces it. If you're doing it to start over, it won't work.
Sarcasm: This board is plagued with it. In a good way. Take everything everyone says with a grain of salt, and don't take anyone seriously unless it's obvious they're being that way. If you read members posts, you'll learn eventually when they're joking and when they're not.
Don't Be Judgemental: We can be, you can't. That is, if you want to make a good impression. Think of it as walking into a circle of talking people. It's perfectly understandable (and normal) for them to pass judgement on you very fast. For you, however, to immediately walk up and label everyone, assume, and poke fun at is completely unacceptable in almost everyone's eyes.
No One Cares Who You Know: This goes for people like Dr. Grant, Bendehur, and Aslan, who, if they are not the same person, are very closely related or very good friends. If your friends are not liked, don't try to stick up for them for no reason. If they deserve to be liked by specific people, those people will base their judgements off how they act, not who they know.
1 more thing- if you play the RPG, please dont create threads asking for wackler. Borrow from the bank, or PM me or Max Mouse if you are truely incapable of getting it on your own.
He explained everything I thought of.
How come I just posted, but it still says I haven't.
Posting in the intro board doesn't alter the post count for whatever reason.
Ignore criticisms from Darkness Advanced dudes:
Well, not ignore as such. Obviously, read their posts just like they were another member, but take their personal attacks with a pinch of salt. A lot of their humour involves ****ing about with people, and though I have nothing at all against the people theirselves, they can be kind of tactless, and offensive for stupid reasons. Don't take any insults from them too seriously and you should be fine, is what I'm saying.
Someone should add something about using common sense as a ground for thought.
Something solid to stand on...
Also, don't end up trying to be overly-witty. Serious posts are more appreciated. Although humor is subjective, going into threads and saying stuff like "____ licks balls CAUSE HE'S GAY LOL" usually isn't found humorous by most, especially the oldies here. Most times, blunt humor and nonsensical joking is just annoying, unwitty, and unsatisfying to read. Not many of the members can manage to entertain others with it and new members often make fools of themselves by making such jokes and are likely be ripped apart.
Also, keep your temper under control. No need to fly off the handle at the drop of a hat (I like euphamisms). Just be calm and relaxed. It's the internet, after all.
Also, keep your ****ing posting under control. It isn't nice when nubs rack up multi-thousand post counts in a matter of weeks.

Way to bump a year old thread to add nothing to it, idiot.
EDIT: I just read through all this thread (Christ in Heaven was that hard ) and it just reminded me of how incredibly awesome I am. So I guess some good came out of it. Idiot.
Now now, be nice to da Judge!!! Remember, these are all kids!!! :D:D:D:D
And even WackoHater (Your buddy!!) is a kid!!! :D:D:D:D
grammar and the ability to add the "h"'s to your "yeah"'s much later (a trait common in most preteens), i guess :s
ironically, i rarely use grammar anymore myself!
Oh geez, someone's a hardass. Way to be, idiot.
I don't get it.
Awsome thread Judge, it really helped out a lot!
I like how this thread has less views than ones made like, a week ago.
