How to crush the bots in Triple Triad... and everybody else

Posted by GameMiestro

This is a guide for those who want to master the Triple Triad minigame in RPG Inferno. The benefits of being skilled at the game are 1. you get 1000 wackler everytime you win, which is a big help with new accounts; and 2. you can beat other people in the RPG, even if you have lower actual RPG stats. I'm focusing on level 1 vs. level 1 battles, because everyone can get a pack of them for free, and I am convinced that they are the most difficult battles to win, as well as the most strategic. Also, Lv. 8- Lv. 10 battles require different strategy then in this guide, and you can probably make up your own strategies for them on an individual basis.

Anyways... the first, and most important step, is choosing your cards.

Notice how I have avoided choosing any cards that have two "1" values. This is because it is very difficult to prevent these cards from getting captured. Some people may disagree with this strategy, but I dare you to beat anyone with a hand full of RedBats and Funguars. Also, notice the variety in the stats of the cards I have chosen. There is at least one card in my hand that has at least a value of 4 for each side, which helps this hand adapt to virtually any opponent. I recommend using this hand in lv. 1 battles, or using a slight variation on it (try switching Bolbra for a BiteBug, if you want). And since the beginning pack only includes 1 of each lv. 1 card, I am not using copies in this hand (I wouldn't want to, anyways).

Now that we've chosen a hand, lets look at our opponents hand, and plan a strategy accordingly. Notice how all of the bottom vaules of the bots cards are 1. Most new players fail to realize what a huge advantage this is, and make and freak out when they see all the 5's and 6's covering the opponents cards. I'm going to try and work up from the bottom, in an attempt to force the bot to put his cards on the top row, making them easy targets.

The starting move is almost as important as the card you choose, and since you always must go first against bots, you would be smart to think about it. Always try to play a card on the first turn that cannot be captured. If you cant, try to play a card so that you can easily counter your opponents counter, and hopefully gain an advantage with a "wall" of the first three cards. Yes, this game is all about thinking several turns ahead. Finally, the center slot is never a good place to start with! Don't try it unless you want to get beaten quickly...

This picture illustrates the"corner trap", a move that you must use in order to master the game. That Caterchepillar was simpily bait for the Geezard to be played. I then would play Fastitocalon-F in order to capture them both in one move, giving me a 6-4 score advantage!

Of course, this doesn't pevent the bot from countering it with his Blobra... but the score is now equal, which is actually an advantage if you are playing first. In fact, I can tell right now that we've already won the game, but I still have to play down my last two cards.

Simpily put, if we didn't put Blobra in the lower left corner, it would have been a tie. Try different combinations yourself if you don't believe me. Remember, thinking several moves ahead is key to winning this.

And we "won the Bot", 6-4, after putting that Cockatrice in the last spot. Looking back, I realize that corner trick with Fastitocalon-F (who was played in the center) won me the match... barely. A card with the vaules 1 left, 2 up, 4 right, and 5 down would have been much more efficient and would have prevented it's capture. However, seeing as how Fastitocalon-F is the only existing lv. 1 card that could have captured the top center and center right cards (once again, check the card values at the top if you don't believe me), I think it was a fairly good move.

I used to think that it was impossible to beat the bots in a lv. 1 on lv. 1 battle, but many, many failures, I finally formulated some decent strategies. No matter what, though, the battle will be very difficult to win, or even tie. I hope these tips at least give you a fighting chance... :D

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated!

Wow. Thorough... :-D

Thank ye. Glad you took the time to read it... not that it will do you good for very long, seeing as how an "official" triple triad (with the real rules intact) is coming in version 3.

What do you mean?

Well, normally, when you put a card down with a "3" on the left and your opponent put a card to the left of it with a "2" on the right, the opponents card would get captured. This version was simplified to omit this rule.

It's a pretty simplistic game really--my comp screwed up and I didn't even get a free pack. It said I did, but I saw my slots were still empty. No good opponents, though so I stopped fooling with it.

On the left you see triple traid--on the right is my caring!!! :chainsaw:
