Favorite City?

Posted by Ant

For me it would have to be Las Vegas. Anytime I went there I loved the whole atmosphere of the place. It's so unique to that of any other city in the world really. And at night with all the neon lights on and everything so bright, it's beautiful :)

But for some reason, I'm not too sure if I would ever want to move there. I think the thought of just going there for a small amount of time is what makes it so magical. With moving there it would just become hum drum life.

What's yours?!

Hm ... I really liked San Francisco and the bay area in general. It's just an interesting city with lots of of things around it. If you want to go for a little hike you just take a drive to Mount. Diablo--want a walk on the beach? No problem, just drive down Sunset Blv. and you'll see a pretty water front. Also, if you ever get bored of Mother Nature, you can always go hang out at all the malls they have there [even though that has never been my forte] or dine at exotic [not erotic!] restaurants. A notable feature of San Francisco is also the large dog population. :) Golden Gate park ... not one corner without a dog there. As for the weather in San Francisco, it's perfect for me! Nice and cool, but not freezing cold. I love the gentle Pacific Breeze. China Town is always nice, too. Although I'm somewhat embarassed to say this, I suck at eating Western food. I cannot live a week without eating rice or some Asian culinary.

I've never been to this other place before, but I'd love to go to New York C0ity. The history just seems so interesting and there's tons of **** to do. I'm not sure about actually living there, maybe for a short period of time, but nothing permenent.

Chicago is my favourite non-Albuquerque town. It r0x0rz. Most of the other Nyyssonen family is up there.

Never had a favourite city. Though I've always enjoyed places like Charlotte in North Carolina and St. Albert in Alberta. Both pretty similar - fairly big and open, almost rural, but definitely urbanised with everything a normal big city would have. It's just a nice mix between the country and the big city.

I don't have a favourite city yet (possibly soon), but I also haven't been to many. I don't really remember much of Vancouver, but I don't recall hating it. Or Edmonton.

Lexingville is where i used to live and it was a great place but then i moved to Harlingtonn and that was great too now i;m in a different city and its an oh so wonderful city

I love the Saint Pete area. I cant say a specific city in itself, since there are like 14 cities in the county. But since pretty much the whole county is urbanized to some extent its kinda continuous. I lived east of Tampa my whole life, but the attitude is completely different over here. People are just more laid back in general it seems. Not only that, but the proximity to the water makes the air have a hint of that nice beachy quality at all times. AND, there seems to be less air pollution (as in, none that I notice) whereas if you look at Tampa from where I lived (or the other way round, sadly) there was a brown haze over the sky on somedays.

I dislike Las Vegas. I've spent plenty of time there and the more I'm there, the less I like it. My first visit wasn't so bad. I thought it was bright, unique, and awfully amusing. After awhile (or after I grew up) I found it overly obnoxious and terribly ugly. It's a grandmas city. Walking through the casinos listening to all the money getting sucked away is really depressing. I mean, if the entire city turned off their lights for one night, imagine the money that would be saved. Does anyone happen to know how much it costs to light up Las Vegas for one night? It's just not worth it.

"Everything that is famous about Las Vegas is about leaving it. That movie, the song, even the mob left Las Vegas." ~~ Alex Whitman in Fools Rush In. Such a wonderfully romantic film.

As for my favorite city, Portland would definitely have to be it. It's going to be difficult for me to part ways with it. I almost feel as though it was specifically tailored for me. It has fantastic raves and there are lots of animal lovers and environmentalist enthusiasts around. It really inspires and helps strengthen what I believe it. It encourages positive emotions and seems to build character rather than take it away, which so many cities seem to do. It is also incredibly romantic and has some terrific restaurants.

I've been to lots of cities in my life, probably more than any other member here, and I can safely say that Portland is my favorite. Strongly recommended.

I've been to Portland about 3 or 4 times. Boring as hell. Seattle is superior.

*** ****IT, Chicago kicks ***. I don't think I'll be visiting for a long time, though, until I know for sure that a certain person doesn't live there anymore. Still one of the greatest cities on earth though.

London kicks an equal amount of booty. So does Hong Kong. And ****it, I wanna go to Gothenburg someday. And Tokyo.

Seattle is teh bomb. The NOA, Microsoft, and former Boeing capitals are there, the place has been called the boating capital of the world (which I disagree with, but it's close), and lots of fish. Lots, and lots of fish. And theres the big pointy spinning building... :)

Posted by Klarth

What, the space needle spins now? What have I missed?

Posted by mis0

Hasn't it always? I can't remember. I went up in it, though, and was scarred to death. But the Sears Tower is made of pwn.

Posted by Ant

Well, the building doesn't spin, but the inside does

Indeed it is. Managed to wrangle a trip up it once a month when I was four or five.

London. It's completely disorganised, just go look at any map of it.

Grid system is for idiots.

Traverse City, Michigan. It's such a nice and fun place, and Lake Michigan owns.

Posted by Crazy K

I have never left Michigan so I guess I would have to say Saint Claire Shores Michigan, since its the only place I have ever went to. :(

GAHHHHH, STOP BEING SO AMERICAN. BEING "OBECE" IS ENOUGH.

Seattle is very nice. I love a city that is so green it dazzles the eyes, is surrounded by water and mountains, and receives an exorbitant amount of drizzly and overcast days. As I recall, the only time I saw the sun during my three day stay there was in one evening's sunset. The summer mornings I spent there were so uplifting. Besides being a large enough city to never run out of social/cultural activities to do, the parks are beautiful. I spent an entire day romping about just a couple of inner-city parks, and easily got to places where it was so quiet and secluded I no longer felt like I was in the city at all. And I saw so much wildlife everywhere; far more animals than people. Raccoons, skunks, squirrels, rabbits... I'm used to seeing mostly pigs, cows, and horses where I'm from.

Though, I think Vancouver still has Seattle beat. It has all the perks of Seattle that I mentioned, with the added advantage that it's in Canada.

It would have to be between Boston and San Fransisco. I live in Boston and it's great and I love the geographical aspects of San Fransisco. Those hills...

I don't know why but i love it in Calgary and Tokyo.

Galway, Ireland. Fun times beyond belief. Everyone is drunk and happy. When the pubs get too crowded, you pass your euro up to the bar and the crowd of people pass your pint back to you. Could never get away with that here in NY without a few phlegm wads in it. It's definitely the best place i've ever been to.

Honorable mention goes to NYC of course, since its my home and i'll always feel comfortable there. Anything goes in NY without people even batting an eye at your wackiness, and I love it for that.

New Orleans is up at the top as well. Very very dirty (even worse than NYC), the roaches are at least 3" long and running all over the streets at night. But again, fun times up the wazoo. I havn't made it for mardi gras yet, but halloween down there is a miniature version of it and that was good enough for me. Pure debauchery on every single corner, and i loved every minute of it.

Chicago is just a cleaner version of NY. My sister lives there, so I guess i'll give it 3rd place.

I wasn't too impressed with Vegas. The only memory I have of it that stands out is the countless number of hooker trading cards I collected during my visit. I gave them to a friend and told him they were Vegas's version of baseball cards.

if your a nature lover, you definitely need to go to yellowstone. Absolutely amazing. I could have spent weeks in that park camping out and exploring the hundreds of interesting things going on in there.

lets see.... where else.... San Diego i wasnt too impressed with either. everyone always talks about how great the weather is. when i was there it was cloudy and overcast the whole morning. i prefered the santa monica/venice beach area better, definitely entertaining.

Out of curiosity, have you ever been to Yosemite before?

Though, there is a lot of stuff to do around Seattle [Portland, too] outside of the city--especially if you are a nature lover, which it seems to be obvious to me that you are. :p: There's the mountain ... I believe it was called Mount. Shasta, to hike around and etc.

Funny you mention it, seeing that I went there all in a row this summer and I was thinking about that trip a few minutes before.

I have. although it was beautiful, i think i still prefer Yellowstone. there's just so many different things to see at Yellowstone, plus you can easily cover it all in a short amount of time.

whereas with Yosemite, to really truely see the park, you need to hike and hike and hike and campout for a few days at a time. on my trip we didn't have that kind of time to devote to exploring the parks, so we didn't see nearly half of what they had. maybe when i go back and see more of it my opinion will change.

Madison, Wisconsin. It's such a progressive city.

My favorite city would probably be either Denver, Colorado or St. Louis, Missouri. I lived in Denver for about 1 year and everything about the city is fun. The location couldn't be more perfectly located. I love the mountains yet like to have a big city to go do stuff in. I'll probably return living in Denver after College. If not, then if I ever create my own architecture firm. St. Louis is the city that I go to every September for vacation. The city is very relaxing and overall has a really nice feel to it. The architecture in St. Louis I think is very unique. There is also plenty of stuff there to keep you busy.

Boston Massachusetts baby. :coo: Close to where I was born and just an all around excellent place to leave. I love visiting Boston and the awesome aquariums and other neat places it has.

New York, hands down. I live on the complete opposite of the country (cali) and have only been there once or twice in my life, neither visit recent, but still, it's my favorite city. :)

Aurora, CO.
I like it not only because I live here, but because it has everything I need. It has nature just a short drive away, with a big city aspect in some areas. I know almost everyone I care to know here. It has all four seasons, in the same month even. Yes, many people here do suck, but you'll find that everywhere.

New York city is beast too. :D
