I love Shrove Tuesday

Posted by Klarth

Mainly because of the pancakes. Er, ENTIRELY because of the pancakes. I just had a pair of delicious (and sticky) pancakes with sugar, lemony-squeezey-blood and Golden Syrup. ^_^

So, who else ate pancakes today?

Posted by Ant

They're okay.

But to answer your question...no, I did not eat pancakes today. I can't remember the last time I had them actually.

Pancakes are delicious, but I have never heard of Shrove Tuesday nor have any idea what pancakes have to do with it.

I did however, have an interview this morning, and that involved quite a bit of buttering up.

There you go.

Apparently, Shrove Tuesday is traditionally a day on which Christians are meant to fast and only eat the leanest of foods - eg; pancakes. This seems to have been abandoned in favour of pouring sugar and other fatty **** all over them.

I heartily approve.

Edit: Alright, looks like I'm sketchy on the details according to the wiki link Speedy posted, but oh well.

Funny you mention pancakes today, because IHOP was actually giving out free pancakes (all you can eat) today from 7 am till 2 pm as a promotional thing.

I'm glad I didn't tell Anthony. If I miss it because of work, everyone does. :)

...Maybe that was to do with it being Shrove Tuesday and all.

Y'know, maybe.

Posted by Speedfreak

...well I had fajitas for dinner. Tortillas are a kind of pancake, right?

I don't eat pancakes during the weak, although I love to eat them on the weekend. So my answer is no, I haven't had pancakes today.

It was only one free short stack(3) per guest.

I heard about it this morning and went there for lunch with a few other people. We got someone to cut AP Bio to drive us

Kodachi: Oh. Regardless, that's still a nice gift.
Klarth: Admittedly, I didn't read your post.
Ant: ^_____^

lol stupid. It's the begining of Lent where you're supposed to give up that sort of stuff. It marks the last day you can eat anything you want, basically.

Anyone, I dislike pancakes. They make me feel sick. Which sucked back in school when everyone else would have free pancakes all day and I'd get nothing :(

I miss free pancakes.

Anyhow, I like blueberry pancakes best, with strawberries and a dollop of Cool Whip on top.

Posted by Demonblade

dollop...you're the first person ive heard use that word other than that annoying *** jingle in the sour cream commercial.

anyways...nope, no pancakes here, only many handfulls of flaming hot cheetos and mini cheesewheels. Totally forgot it was pancake day today...but im sure i wouldnt have had them either way.

Posted by WILLETH FOR MONTHS

We had a pancake eating contest, would you believe. I didn't win, though. This was due to my dropping half of every pancake I flipped.

So, who's giving up what for Lent?

Posted by Slade

Wow, I heard it was called "Fat Tuesday". Some people dress up and prance around, some give up porn, but the main idea is that no two people celebrate it the same way. Amirite?

Have a problem with the dollop? Then you have a problem with me. It won't be pretty.

Wrong. They're not meant to be eaten plain, they're not really made of the same stuff, and they're not cooked in a pan. Actually, if you ever get the chance to go to a tortilla factory, you should. It's scary efficient.

I believe Shrove is the day, Fat is the festival. And there's actually quite a few customs, not just giving up one thing. Like tons of prayer, fasting, almsgiving, reflection, et cetera. The thing you give up is something you enjoy most, then take the money/time you'd usually spend on that hobby and [put it towards charity.
