Well, my hentai has already been accidentally deleted. It happened when I tried to hide my porn from my gf and forgot where I hide it...few weeks later, my drive formatted.

Schools usually get a small budget for photo-copies. The paper and ink DO cost money, and the school usually goes over-budget. To make up for that, they got the students to pay for it. After all, 15 bucks isn't asking for much, and you already have to buy books for most of you classes, so it's no big deal. Or shouldn't be.
As for the movie, meh, just download it.
But I mean, that all goes to hell if you get a bad proff. At least yours talks and hands out photo-copies. When I was in university, one of my proffs just stuck a sheet on an overhead and sat as his desk reading novels for the whole class. That was one of the reasons I never went back the following year.

Those fees probably don't include copies. Since not every class needs them. Though who knows. Maybe he's trying to make an extra buck.

Only the kids who can afford it. Not everyone can justify a laptop when a notepad will do the exact same. Also, you tend to see a few kids who have laptops, but just can't type fast enough.
You'll end up seeing a lot of people just bring in paper and a recorder (assuming your proff allows a recorder, some don't), take notes, go back to their dorm, listen to the recording, and adjust their notes as needed. It's the safest way and probably the easiest. Not to mention you'll probably want to go into a study-group every once in awhile. And having to constantly print of your notes can be bothersom and somewhat expensive (assuming you have a class where you constantly takes notes).
It's just personal preferrence I guess.
