So that the y does or does not have the umlaut? :( Either way I don't think it'll help, as soon as I redirect iTunes it'll probably override and change it back anyway.

I'll probably just have to use some random undeleting program to try and recover it and hope that it doesn't happen again. :(

Change it so that it is just a normal 'y'. With your problem, its probably best if you get a third-party ID3 tag editing program, and not use iTunes (since you can't actually import the songs to iTunes anyway...). Its free, and served me well in the past.

But unfortunately I don't think that there is any way to prevent iTunes the bit of strangeness again, you'll just have to do it again and see what happenes. If it overrides the changes to the ID3 tags you made, then I'm out of ideas.
